Target is coming to Ottawa. What do I have to look forward to? Never been in one.

1. Don't buy the cheap bath or hand towels.

They don't dry off you at all!

A lot better quality than Wal-Mart, imo.

The store closest to me is in a very congested neighborhood, otherwise I would shop there more.

19. Funny you say that. I bought supposedly 100% cotton towels from an outlet

and they don't absorb moisture at all. A dollar store towel would have been better. These bath towels look like cotton but I now very much doubt they are:(

I generally find my local Target stores to ALWAYS be cleaner than the nearby Wal-Marts or K-Marts.

I don't know much about their politics but if I am ever in a situation where I can't buy something from a local independent store and I need it now, I will always pick Target over the others.

If folks come in here and show where they are terrible corporate citizens that could change but it would have to change to "do without" rather than support them...

I can so that a friend's son got his first job at a Target and they treated him fairly and he left their employ after graduating with good thoughts about them.

4. A definite improvement over Wal-Mart.

It doesn't have that oppressive, desperate and badly-lit atmosphere. It's a good place to go for housewares and some clothing items, like underwear and socks.

They produce good, durable clothing for working out, jogging, yoga, etc. Otherwise, the clothing IS pretty much shabby, flimsy, and ill-filling, just like Walmart, the Gap, Old Navy...

I have all my workout gear from Champion because I refuse to pay the outrageous prices at the running store for essentially the same thing. That said, Champion is a brand name in its own right. Target has its own brand for clothes, and that's what's so poorly made and shabby.

24. And yet, I have a few old Target clothes

that have lasted more than a decade. There's one sleeveless Cherokee top that I've worn for all kinds of grubby yardwork that still looks like new and it's at least 10 years old.

Obviously they have switched to the planned obsolescence mode.

The aisles are usually packed with boxes. They are one of the many stores that restock their shelves during the business hours, rather than at night, when nobody is trying to get through the fucking aisles. At least that's the case in this craphole town. Whenever I get a receipt with the opportunity to fill out a survey, I ALWAYS ding them for that. Sadly, they never do anything about it. I guess more of their customers need to complain about it.

12. Their housewares tend to be more contemporary/modern style.

That includes indoor and outdoor furniture. Also, their markdowns are usually pretty good deals. The clearance items are usually on the outer end caps.

As far as food items go, their Archer Farms and Market Pantry items are very good. And, I also really like their Choxie brand chocolate. It's fairly good quality chocolate, and they make lots of exotic flavors, such as spiced caramel, champagne truffles, and toffee ginger. The best deals on that come when they clear out the Xmas-packed stuff. Wait three or four days after Xmas, and you might be able to get it for 75% off. I think it's too pricey at regular price, but a bargain when it's on clearance.

communicate about every little thing with two way radios. Very dumb.

I hear Target has/is replacing Zellers .. at least it has in Waterloo, ON.


Not a bad place to shop. The grocery items they have are usually priced lower than most stores.

I've found a lot of good bargains that way, mostly 75% off.
