10. Wachikanoka

The Old Sourdough and Wachikanoka, hereinafter referred to as OS&W, was a late-night television show that aired on Bay Area local TV stations in the early 1970s. At first, the show was carried on local channel 20 (KEMO at the time), then moved to channel 36 (KGSC at the time).

The show was hosted by two characters, a grizzled old prospector (The Old Sourdough - played by Andy Moore), and his Native American companion (Wachikanoka - played by Gary Ferry). The two characters would make a few jokes, rip on the movie being played (early shows ran heavily towards screenings of scratchy Lash LaRue westerns and the like), and joke with guests promoting local items of interest. The two hosts played well off each other, and the humor was appreciated by most who watched. Eventually, the format changed so that, instead of having to sit through, say, "Wolves of the Range" to see the duo in action, the pair would do a half-hour of comedy at the beginning of the show, then roll the evening's picture.

It would take me all day to post them all, so I'll let y'all just use your memories of HB cartoons and their adherence to the "side-kick syndrome" :P

Some HB cartoons were great, such as Johnny Quest, even with the annoying sidekick-animal, Bandit. Haji was okay as a sidekick.

Every time my dad looks at me he starts to cry and it's spooky to see a grown man cry. I'll only bring my bongo drums and my stuffed iguana. And he don't eat much."

35. Gabyy Hayes is sure the first one who came to mind. More about him:
George Hayes was born the third of seven children in Wellsville, New York. He was the son of Elizabeth Morrison and Clark Hayes, and did not come from a cowboy background. In fact, he did not know how to ride a horse until he was in his forties and had to learn for movie roles. His father, Clark Hayes, operated a hotel and was also involved in oil production. George Hayes played semi-professional baseball while in high school, then ran away from home in 1902, at 17. He joined a stock company, apparently traveled for a time with a circus, and became a successful vaudevillian. He had become so successful that by 1928 he was able, at 43, to retire to a home on Long Island in Baldwin, New York. He lost all his savings the next year in the 1929 stock-market crash and returned to acting.

Hayes married Olive E. Ireland, daughter of a New Jersey glass finisher, on March 4, 1914. She joined him in vaudeville, performing under the name Dorothy Earle (not to be confused with film actress/writer Dorothy Earle). She convinced him in 1929 to try his luck in motion pictures, and the couple moved to Los Angeles. They remained together until her death July 5, 1957. The couple had no children.

Hayes was the nephew of George F. Morrison, Vice President of General Electric.
