Insomina
ugh..I'm not on any medications for it, but perhaps need to be...seem to go through these periods of just having a hard time of going off to sleep. I'm averaging 2-3 hrs maybe...the sleepy herbal teas are not cutting it..

1. Try over-the-counter "sleep aid" tablets. Just don't take them if you're
sinuses are really dry. They clear out stuffy noses (original job) and put you to sleep at the same time. Get the store brand - same shit, lower price.

Warm Ovaltine with rum in it works pretty well too!!!

2. I just went through about 2 months of that.
It finally gradually went away. I have no idea why.

Check out the herbal remedy section of your drug store. I have heard that melatonin (sp?) works great.

3. You should first try and find out why
There may be a medical explanation which can be addressed separately. Sleep aids really only address the symptom and not the problem. I work shift work, so in my case that's the reason and there's not much I can do about it short of finding another position or job. Ethanol usually works for me. If I get too far behind in my sleep, I have some prescription medication that definitely does work, but I use it very sparingly. Some of the pills expire before I have a chance to use them.

4. Be VERY careful about Over-The-Counter preparations...
.
.
.
... they can be very addicting and have very sharp diminishing-returns
with constant use.
.
I just overheard a pharmacist explaining that any meds promoting memory
would make OTC sleep meds bad for the parient. There are undoubtedly
OTHER bad combinations (I can only RARELY drink a LITTLE grapefruit
juice due to one of MY meds), so try to see a doctor before trying ANY
"drug" therapy.
.
Here's some tips from the Mayo Clinic website (there's PLENTY out there,
just Google "trouble sleeping tips):

.
Are you in a relationship? I think EVERY couple should have a copy of
"Goodnight Moon" and, if one of them is having trouble relaxing/sleeping
at night, the other should tuck them in and read this to them in a calm,
fairly monotoned voice. Maybe getting them a very small glass of water
on request first, lol (serious).

7. Two very good suggestions of natural remedies
First, if you're like me, you may just have a problem with 'Busy Mind'. My brain seems to have a tough time shutting down at nights - I'm always worried about something, usually not anything really critical. I would suggest 750mg of GABA, which is an amino acid

The other is a Melatonin suppliment - which is a natural sleep regulator in the body
