I'm an optimistic person and I think it annoys people sometimes. When I say, "Have a nice day," or, "Have a good weekend," I really mean it. On the way out of work today a co-worker said in a sarcastic tone, "Have a good weekend." I took it in stride and said, "Yeah, you too."
There are times when optimism may be inappropriate. When you are trying to comfort someone who is grieving the loss of someone close to her you probably don't want to say something that starts out, "Look on the bright side..." I'm not inappropriately optimistic. I'm just a happy guy most of the time.
I work with a lot of negative people. I do know of a way that I think would help them out and it's on a poster posted above our time clock. It's that new federally mandated deal explaining the right for workers to unionize. Nobody there seems all that interested, though. They complain about being treated unfairly, lack of respect, and not getting raises, but no one seems to want to do anything about it. They won't even quit. :)
When I came back to work after my honeymoon, one of my customers said that the guy who was filling in for me told him that I probably would not be back. Then a co-worker said that everyone at work didn't think I was going to come back. I'm not looking for a new job and I haven't given any indication that I am to anyone. I don't know for sure who started the rumor, but it didn't really surprise me. I've seen things like that happen there before. It's just the cynical nature of some of the people there that churns stuff like that out. Don't have anything good to talk about? Just make some bullshit up and spread it far and wide. No harm no foul, though. Stuff like that isn't going to bring me down.
