Tom Cruise confirms 'Top Gun' sequel on the way
It's been more than 25 years since we last saw Maverick, Goose, Ice Man and the rest of the "Top Gun" gang fly the friendly skies, and rumors have persisted about a possible sequel.
Now, star Tom Cruise has confirmed his interest, and revealed that he's met with producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott about the possibility.
The ultra-patriotic '80s hit features Cruise as a hotshot pilot codenamed Maverick, as he makes his way through an elite flight school, where he must get over a tragic accident in order to become the best of the best. It also features a popular soundtrack, including the ubiquitous Berlin ballad "Take My Breath Away." The film earned over $350 million worldwide.
While promoting his latest action sequel, "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol," Cruise talked about the idea. "I said to Tony (Scott), I want to make another movie with him... Tony and I and Jerry (Bruckheimer), we never thought that we would do it again. Then they started to come to us with these ideas of where it is now. I thought, 'Wow, that would be... what we could do now,'" Cruise told MTV.
