Public schools stink!

I just found out that my good friend is getting kicked out of high school a week before she starts senior year. "Why?" you guys ask...well I'll tell ya! She moved away to a different suburb and its bordering the district we all live in. So she doesent belong to our district anymore and they kicked her out for that! IT'S COMPLETE RUBBISH! And if she wishes to stay in our lovely school she would be forced to cough up 13,000 dollars...AGHHH! What the hell kind of tuition is that? I know many good colleges who charge less than that! And what's so damn irritating is that shes a straight A student. Our school should be proud to have a kid like her, and instead they're throwin her out. It's simply ridiculous to kick a great kid like her out when they have all these failing bozos who fight in the hallways who still get to stay. Sorry guys...but I needed to get that out...:argh: (this rant does not reflect upon all public schools..just my silly one in particular)

I live RIGHT DOWN THE STREET from the district I want to send my kid to, and I'm physically closer to those schools than "my" schools....

Too bad for me!

I haven't called to ask whether I can pay to send her there. Probably would just be cheaper to move there, if your friend's price is any indication.

Sorry to hear about your friend, that's REALLY tough--senior year at that!

I'm so perplexed by the whole districting idea anyways. It doesent make sense for many kids and parents who have to travel a ways to get their kids to school.

for an intradistrict transfer..

My son went all through high school on one..

If your friend has great grades and has not been in any trouble, she should be allowed to attend... Transportation will be her responsibility though..


Most of my son's club soccer team went to that high school and the coach was very to have another teammate there.. They hit the ground running with a ready made team..they guys had all played together since they were 8 or 9 years old..

also my son was a 4.0+ GPA from the gifted program.. that helped too..

It's worth a try for your friend:) especially since it's her senior year :)

It would be helpful too, to have a teacher from the school or a sports coach or music or art or whatever , write her a little recomendation:)

11. i second this and it will likely work

I had a friend who moved a loooonnnggg way (30 miles) out of her district but was still given special permission to attend her original school. Any reasonable person is going to give a break to a senior. She just needs to be persistent and ask at the top instead of at the bottom.

"moved" into a friends house in your district. several of my daughter`s friends do this ,so they don`t have to finish in a different school. ya it sucks when a friend moves to another school esp. senior year

I meant his address was really his aunt's, and she lived near the school so hence. He hardly told anyone about it, so the chances of the shadow people lol finding out were harder.

thats whats really going on here. Im familiar with Chicago and its a vertible Holy Roman Empire of suburban governments, special purpose districts, etc....

Now in Louisville there is one countywide school system and they do make allowances for stuff like what happened to your good freind...

fight for every penny they can get. but you`re right the burbs are the worst. i have a friend who teachs in one of the "parks" and it`s brutal. moving the "bad kids" into one school to improve all the other schools "leave no child behind" bullshit. then putting up with the administrators

on paper and she could stay in your district -- but her primary residence woiuld have to be with you or another friend, That does not mean that she could not live at home -- just that she needs to technically "live" in the district. Sje can tell the school "dammit -- I am moving in with my friends to stay at this school: and her parents would have to agree and sign over custody (until she's eighteen)

But that might work.

In most states at 16 or 17 she can leave home without parents permission but remains ubder their legal guardianship unless she gets emancipated.

The best private high school in my area only charges $7000 per year, and it is in the top ten statewide. Public schools are about $9000 per head, and their test scores are horrible.

I think public schools waste too much money on administration for one thing. I went to public school. It was bad then, and is probably worse now.
