What's your favorite Elvis Costello album?
Mine's My Aim is True, followed closely by This Year's Model, Spike, Imperial Bedroom, and Almost Blue.

2. I like them all..too hard to choose
I do love Spike..especially the re-release that has unplugged versions of most of the tunes. Just saw him last May in LA. He was awesome!

16. That was in March!
Is your memory going, NSMA? :P

It was a terrific show, absolutely.

And I'm going with Spike on the album.

5. "This Year's Model" and as....
"This Year's Model" is Elvis Costello and the Attractions best album...and, yet, as the years go by.... we find ourselves listening to "Get Happy" more and more often.

Twenty-five years ago we first saw this group ...along with the 'Rockpile'....at an afternoon concert in the
Hollywood High School Auditorium.

...Mink DeVille played the show, also. Very surreal show...being at a High School and all.
...we met a kid there, about 12 years old or so, who brought his Mother to see the show.

PS Please post picture, if you can.

15. Jeez; not one vote for Armed Forces?
I dunno, I like it. It's interesting that this thread pops up, as I'm on a Taking Liberties binge just now. Amazing; this is stuff that didn't make it onto his albums--and over a period only, like, 2 or three years--and there are a ton of great songs on it.

I just got King of America too. I've only listened to it once so far; I think that one's gonna have to grow on me.

20. Only because I'm here late!
My favorites from him are his first 3, with each being better than the one that came before.

Thus, my 3 favorties are:

#1 Armed Forces (1979)

#2 This Year's Model (1978)

#3 My Aim Is True (1977)

"My Aim Is True" is full of sexual tension. "This Year's Model" allowed all of that sexual tension to be released. And "Armed Forces" is his political masterpiece. In my opinion, this is the greatest "debut trilogy" in the entire history of rock/punk/new wave/pop music.

I think Billy Joel's song "Close To The Borderline" on his "Glass Houses" album is a satire of the songs on "This Year's Model."
