I'm sitting down to watch it for the first time. I've heard great things about this one too, by the same reviewers that love "may".

1. Here's what "Das Experiment" is about
Inspired by the Stanford Prison Experiment, this psychological drama focuses on twenty paid recruits who are divided into groups "prisoners" and "guards" and are let loose in a controlled prison-like environment.

3. A Simulation Study of the Psychology of Imprisonment Conducted at Stanford
A Simulation Study of the
Psychology of Imprisonment
Conducted at Stanford University

Welcome to the Stanford Prison Experiment web site, which features an extensive slide show and information about this classic psychology experiment. What happens when you put good people in an evil place? Does humanity win over evil, or does evil triumph? These are some of the questions we posed in this dramatic simulation of prison life conducted in the summer of 1971 at Stanford University.

How we went about testing these questions and what we found may astound you. Our planned two-week investigation into the psychology of prison life had to be ended prematurely after only six days because of what the situation was doing to the college students who participated. In only a few days, our guards became sadistic and our prisoners became depressed and showed signs of extreme stress. Please join me on a slide tour of describing this experiment and uncovering what it tells us about the nature of Human Nature.

5. The film isn't
They take the idea of the experiment and go from there, setting it in current times. (that's important because a piece of high-tech plays an imporant part in the film. )

It's also filmed by liberal Germans.

Does that give you a clue as to what the film might be like?

7. Here's a good quote to give you a feel for the film
"We don't want to hurt anyone. We just want them to respect us."

8. There's also a lot of footage of naked guys in prison
I'm sure that will appeal to certain groups who read DU.

9. Forget "May"
This film is seriously screwing with me. I think every Liberal should see it. It displays the whole Authority/Submission complex clearly without rhetoric.

10. This is up there with the John Hurt version of 1984
Shit...I don't know if I want to live. People are like this in life. I've dealt with them face to face.

11. oh shit, that's up there!
way up there!

ever hear about those psyche experiments, where someone is asking questions to an (unbeknownst to him) actor, and the actor is hooked up to phony electrodes...

the person asks the actor questions, and is prompted to shock the actor for getting them wrong, a stronger shock for each wrong answer that follows, as the actor acts like it's shocking him...

very similar results :scared:

12. I had to stop watching before the end
As someone who has spent time in lock-up, the film was very phobic.
