Let's pressure Bush donors in our cities/states to STOP GIVING!
I am serious.....

With the FEC site that tells us who the individuals are that give to campaigns ..... we should go state by state, city by city and get a list of all individual BUSH DONORS. These are our neighbors and owners of stores in our neighborhoods and companies in our states (that are BANKRUPT!).

Just like BUSH says......to stop bad activities (terrorism), you have to cut off the money source!

Let's take that to heart and go to those donors (by mail, of course) and ask them to stop funding .

An intelligent thinking person cannot possibly think that the patriot act and homeland security and the bankrupting of our state and federal treasuries is a GOOD THING. These monied people are voting their self-interest in most cases.....and it's time, as their community members, to tap into their CONSCIENCE.

This is definitely important to do for the western fundraising sweep states that Bush is hitting this month.........

Here is the link for searching the FEC database for individual donors: http://www.fec.gov/finance_reports.html

You can Search for contributions made by individuals using contributor name, city, state, zip code, principal place of business, date, and amount.

So, start with your ZIP CODE and hand deliver a note to those in your zip code who donate to bush.

Then do a search by city...and mail out a note to those donors.

***I think a lot of people are supporting Bush because they get lost in the masses and don't feel all that responsible, and "hell, if it gets me a tax write-off buying me a cool humvee.....yippee!".

Just like the repukes target LIBERALS (from putting us on no-fly lists, making us protest in free speech zones, and basically making it a MORTAL SIN to speak out), we should target THEM.

I am not suggesting being unkind or rude or harassing or anything of the kind. Just a note to ask the person: Have you searched your conscience?

1. If you aren't that good at searching databases......let me know
Once you get the hang of it......it's pretty easy. ALWAYS go to the ADVANCED SEARCH option.......

2. This will take some TYPING work..........
Edited on Sun Aug-03-03 12:19 PM by DagmarK
But well worth it. The addresses are from an image copy of the FEC contrib form.....so you pretty much have to WRITE the address down separately and can't just copy and paste into a word processor.

The first guy on the list for my zip code is the dentist whose office is a 5 min walk from my house.

He gave $300 to the Republican campaign committee.

THIS NEIGHBORHOOD where this guy makes his living is WORKING CLASS. It is probably 30% black, 30% hispanic (mostly non-english speaking), and the whites are pre-dominantly wage earning blue collar workers and the professional here (regardless of race) are liberals.

(Put it this way, white fundies and conservatives don't even visit our neighborhood. It's a big democratic area).

I am going to write a letter to this dentist and tell him that if he wants to support the the republicans then he shouldn't be in this neighoborhood (where our high school was closed for good last year!).

And he shouldn't make money off us in his business.

Okay, so I am not going to get in his face quite like that.....but he needs to know that the area of town where he makes his livlihood that his position is well known. Period.

3. Dag, it's not the individual donors - its the CORPORATE donors who have
to be stopped.

that means NATIONAL BOYCOTT.

And a movement has to be started to STOP CORPORATE
DONATIONS and PACS. Elections and contributions
have to be returned to the people.

Of the people, by the people, for the people.

A corporation is an entity, not a person, or a citizen
of the US.

A start is any corporation that does not pay taxes and
is offshore shall not be allowed to contribute....and
then move on from there.

But unless we get everybody in the organizations like DU
and others to mobilize, it won't work. And we cant expect
congress to help when they benefit from the millions going
into their pacs.

I just did an FEC electronic filing receipts search......

For the period ending June 2003.....money for the RNC =

Individual (non-pac contributions) total $54 million
PACs total about $475,000

So the PACS haven't kicked in to the RNC.......yet.

I guess they go for individual candidates...maybe that's the rule.....

5. Bush Administration Veto Threat: Fight Back Now!
BUSH ADMINISTRATION VETO THREAT -- FIGHT BACK NOW!

Bush Administration Ignores Public Outcry and Threatens VETO of Bipartisan Effort to Rollback Controversial Media Ownership Rules

The American public made it clear - they didn't like the FCC decision - and both Democrats and Republicans in Congress agreed.

** PRESIDENT BUSH NEEDS TO HEAR FROM YOU.

The fight to roll back the controversial changes to media ownership rules that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved in June has enjoyed broad support in Congress and attracted the attention and concern of Americans from across the political spectrum. Nearly two million Americans told the FCC they opposed the new rules, and growing numbers continue to contact their elected officials in Congress to urge them to support a rollback of the rules.

Thanks to your efforts, the issue has emerged from the obscurity of a regulatory commission to ignite the formation of a coalition of organizations and individuals from the left and right that is rarely seen in our country. Now we have a new threat to our efforts.

The media industry has spent more than $124 million on political contributions and lobbying in Washington since 1995. Media interests are pressing Congress not to roll back the ownership rules because media consolidation will increase their profits. They are asking the White House to block any congressional rollback of the FCC rules.

The Bush Administration is threatening to veto legislation that would restore safeguards against further media consolidation. The Administration has warned Congress that, "If this amendment were contained in the final legislation presented to the President, his senior advisers would recommend that he veto the bill."

We need to tell President Bush to listen to the American people, not to the media industry or his "senior advisors."

We need your voice to offset the political clout of the media giants. Please sign the petition below and urge President Bush to listen to the concerns of the American people and support the efforts in Congress to rollback the FCC rules.

** SIGN THE PETITION!

** TELL A FRIEND. Please share this alert with friends, family and other organizations. This is a word of mouth campaign and we need your help. Tell them to sign the petition at http://www.commoncause.org/action/petition.cfm. CLICK BELOW TO SEND THE MESSAGE:

** Common Cause is launching an aggressive organizing and media campaign in Senate and Congressional districts across the country during the August recess. We will be in contacting you in the near future about events in your area. We need your financial support.
