The open voting system involves computers that print a
paper ballot summary after each person votes. The
paper ballot summaries are then used to count the
votes (the PAPER ballot summaries are the ONLY source
of counting the votes, the votes are not tabulated
directly from the electronic voting machines
electronically). This system combines the advantages
of computer voting (blind people can vote without
assistance, it's easy to tell what choice the voter
intended to make) with the security of hand-countable,
voter-verified paper ballots. Plus, all machines use
open source software (anyone can see how the machines
are programmed) and recycled computers can be used
instead of expensive new touch-screens. For more
information, check out www.OpenVoting.org.
