Thousands expected to protest Bush visit in Brussels

BRUSSELS, Belgium Protesters are getting ready for President Bush's visit to Brussels next week. Starting Sunday, they are organizing rallies to show opposition to U-S policies on the war in Iraq, the environment and other issues.

A spokesman for the group Friends of the Earth Europe says, "President Bush should act as an ambassador for the American people" -- and not as the ambassador for big U-S corporations.

Thousands are expected to rally outside the U-S embassy in Brussels on Monday and outside a NATO summit and a European Union gathering on Tuesday.

Belgian police officials are also gearing up for the rallies. They're putting 25-hundred officers on duty, and setting up barricades with barbed wire. Water cannons and helicopters will also be in place to protect the summit sites.
