Here's an idea
I posted the general thought in GD, but it occured to me that this wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing to do. It would be pretty simple, and might help motivate the Corporate Press into doing their job a little better.

I'm talking about a DU "Reporter of the Week" award, where we send mass e-mails to any reporter/commentator of the "mainstream press" that seems to actually be doing his or her job, as well as his or her immediate superior.

What do you all think?

1. I'm not for mass emails as a reward
I'm guessing these people get enough of that. How about a bouquet of flowers or something like that, a la Barbara Boxer's Valentine gift?

2. Olberman and Stewert would get them every week
Who else is there out there?

Is Stewart really a reporter? Wouldn't Colbert and Cordory be reporters?

4. I would love to find a way
to acknowledge any reporter that actually gets out there and gets a story instead of cowering to the Bush administration. I would absolutely support your idea. And even if a handful of reporters are continually recognized, they still deserve to know that there are Americans out there who aren't buying the crap that the msm feeds them and know a good story from the normal regurgitated Bush talking points.

5. Thanks!
My thoughts exactly. We have to let them know somehow that we appreciate what they're doing.

Welcome to DU!

6. Maybe we could have a vote on DU once a week and
send one email to the winning "Reporter of the Week" with a thank you an a link to the winning vote.

7. Absolutely
People really take notice when they are praised as opposed to receiving hate/complaint mail.

I think encouragement of good reportering is quite a good idea. Just include the names of the people who are congratulating them so they know that its not just some big contributor but a number of people who are listenting.
