American companies continue to ship jobs to other countries mainly because of lower labor costs. Many of these companies owe their very existence and prosperity to us, the American worker and consumer. But in a effort to increase profits they turn their backs on us and export much needed jobs. If we don't do something and do it soon, the jobs left in this country won't be worth having. I suggest we start a targeted boycott. We pick just one company at a time and boycott it's products until we bring it to it's knees. It should be a large company. My nominee is Ford Motor Company. They plan to close a plant in Georgia and ship the jobs to Mexico. Of course this is just a first suggestion. We could organize this over the net. Set up a web site, take donations for ads etc. We could be rolling in six months or less I bet.
The way I see it we just keep targeting companies until this crap stops. We have an awesome power if we unite and take a stand against these money grubbing traitors. I welcome your comments. :mad:

1. Beyond the Boycott

Jobs are always an issue at the best of times. In todays world we are moving toward placing ourselves in the precarious position of total dependancy on others.
Essential production of items like shoes, clothing and repair parts for machinery are being moved to other countries. Don't even talk about international agri-business and the demise of the American farm as a food source.
Supply and demand run these things and, as you infer, we choose to buy the cheapest. As such, I suppose we all must accept some responsibility for this trend.
Imagine how vulnerable we are becoming to these third world countries that we may be alienating.
Acting to keep production of life's necessities in this country is essential to the success of any "Homeland Security" program. I wish that Congress realized this and acted accordingly.
Acting on your idea could certainly be a signifigantly patriotic act. Go for it Dude!

How do you intend to boycott Ford? even if 100.000 ppl (approximately the amount of ppl that manifested against war at NY) stop buying ford cars for a year, that wouldn't be a meaningul impact on that company.

If you think the loss of 100,000 sales would mean nothing to Ford, you better think again. I promise you, that if Ford knew it could loose 100,000 sales due to a boycott, they'd shit their pants. Because it would mean people were paying attention. It would make the news. Bad PR etc. :mad:

Should we boycott every single company out there because of foreign content or assembly?

Personally, if I were going to boycott anyone, it would start with Wal-Mart. These guys are not only using their purchasing power to decide what products we buy and are viciously anti-labor, but are also a prime mover in outsourcing production to China. Must also be some environmental problems in the brief, too.

Everything that can possibly be wrong with a corporation is wrong with Wal-Mart. Except low prices on some things and high profits, but that's all that counts, I guess..

Oh, come to think of it, I never do go into Wal-Mart after all. I guess I am boycotting them.

I never buy Exxon or Mobil gas, either. But that's another thing.

4. Boycott

I'm saying boycott the ones that keep exporting jobs. Companies like Ford that close a plant and send the jobs to Mexico because labor is cheap. They don't care about American workers or unemployment. Greed is the only thing that motivates them.
There's nothing wrong with imports and I'm not saying don't buy them. It's the companies that turn their backs on American workers and then expect us to support them that are the problem. They're the ones we must boysott.:mad:
