Anyone else send a letter to Bill Frist thank him for his support
As you know, Sen. Bill Frist did the unthinkable by supporting embryonic stem cell research. I think this stunned all of us because if you're like me, you figured Frist was a tool of the propaganda right-wing agenda.

I noticed the link to StemPAC on our home page asking us to thank Frist for his support. Hopefully he will get others like him to support the bill which will make it Veto-free from Bush's agenda.

I used StemPac's link to send a thank you to Frist. For me, I removed the can letter and added one of my own - thank him for giving hope to someone like my niece Emily who was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. I wanted to get preachy & snarky in the letter since 99.5% of the time I do not agree with Frist's agenda. But I felt this one time I should be above that and just thank him because hopefully he's given the possibility that one day my niece can live a life without diabetes.

1. It's not out of any genuine goodwill
As Mike Malloy pointed out, he and family have invested in a lot of hospitals. Hospitals which will get to do the research. So he stands to make another fortune from this.

Maybe he figures it'll make him look good when he runs for President. Should be an interesting primary season if nothing else

2. I did not. I will not.
I don't believe anything that comes out of his mouth.
I don't trust his motives.

3. I did, simply because I believe it is the right thing to do.

My 52-year old cousin died this past Sunday after living with juvenile diabetes since she was 9-years-old. Like all families who lose someone important in their lives, we are grieving and we wish her last 10 years had been free of the awful deterioration wrought by the disease.

Stem cell research offers hope - no guarantees -- but lots of hope for finding cures for diabetes and many, many other horrible diseases.

I still don't like Frist or trust him one iota. But I also believe that in this one instance he did the right thing and I told him so.

I'm sorry to learn that your neice was recently diagnosed, Lynn. My cousin worked hard to manage her disease and, despite lots of ups and downs, had a good life. But as you've heard, typically by the time they are 40, the disease takes a terrible toll.

6. I did
I rewrote it also, thanking him for putting our health above partisan politics. If anything, that's the message I want congress to hear - even if I have to occasionally rise above partisan politics to send it.

7. Dr. Fristenstein
you used to support the research, then you stopped supporting it. Now you say you are supporting it again. How long until you re-change your mind again too?

8. Yes!
If his actions help patients get the treatment they need, then I am glad he did it,regardless of what his motives may have been. I thanked him for "standing up to the Bush Administration".
