Flordia trying to take child away from gay parents-help save this family

His two fathers have adopted six HIV-positive children. One lived several years longer than the odds suggested. The others are healthy and thriving.

At the age of nine weeks, Bert was placed as a foster child. Now he is ten, and no longer tests positive for HIV.

Now he is considered "adoptable" and Florida wants to take him away.

3. Have you seen the movie
about this family? "We Are Dad" I think it is called. It has been on Showtime lately. Very touching. This is so sad. 2 more giving, loving, committed parents are not to be found.

I will call.

7. Look at the love and diversity in this family
I can't believe any one would want with a sound mind to break it apart. Growing up I was introduced with many concepts, In time they came my preconceptions and further down the road I recognized they were misconceptions. today I think for myself. As I said, look at the love and diversity in this family. Peace.

11. Considering how Florida runs its Foster Care program,
I would say for them to enter this child into that program would be to endanger his life. Where are the lawyers?

13. Good argument.
Someone should honestly use that. There's certainly more proof of kids being endangered in the Florida Foster Care system than in a household with gay parents.

14. Hold up
This family IS the foster care program, aren't they?

I think they are trying to pull the child OUT of foster care, into a family where he will be adopted. (Which these people can't, because they are gay.)

21. Guess you're right. Then, why are they good enough for foster care,
but not good enough to adopt. There has to be a legal argument here somewhere.

15. The child's psychological an physical health would suffer.
The child's psychological an physical health would suffer. I am sure that there are countless studies that would prove this statistically.

If they were bad parents I doubt that he would be testing negative now. Irresponsible people don't adopted 6 HIV positive children.

Removing a 10 year old child from his family is just mean.

16. This is so wrong....raising children has to do w/ love...not "sex"...
It makes me sick that there are so many ignorant people out there and those that would take a child away from his family, the only family he's ever known, simply because of the sexuality of the parents.

Anyone who raises children knows that "having a sexual life with your partner" becomes secondary for starters and has nothing, nothing to do with your love for your child and being a parent. Who you lie down next to at night after the children are asleep, whether its someone of the opposite sex or same sex is irrelevant.

Have any of you ever thought of your parents having sex? :puke: Well, the point in me asking is that children don't view their parents as "sexual beings". The idea of my parents being intimate is not even a thought that ever crossed my mind. My parents gave me hugs, kisses and read to me, played soccer with me, took me to the zoo, helped me learn things, provided me a good home with a roof over my head and meals to feed me etc. etc. The most I ever saw my parents do was hug and give eachother a kiss on the cheek or gently on the lips "goodbye" etc. My parents were married to their best friend. The idea of them being anything more or sexual was not something I ever thought of.

My parents - are gay. Well, atleast after my Mom and Dad got divorced when I was very young, I lived with my Mom and the person she fell in love with after my Dad - a woman. I lived with them and my siblings for 10 years. Guess what - Myself and my siblings are all STRAIGHT! Whoa! Imagine that! (and imagine - all of my gay friends parents are straight - go figure!)

My point being, the fact that I lived for a decade in a home with Gay parents was irrelevant. What was relevant to mine and my siblings was that we were loved and very well cared for and provided for in a nurturing and loving environment. They taught us to love and respect people, and to someday fall in love and marry our best friend. They never said if it should be male or female. And guess what? I learned well and married my best friend. And if it had been a member of the same sex, that would have been okay. And it wouldn't have changed even today what kind of parent I am to my children, my Pachababies.

Parenting is about Love, not sex. Those freaks who think otherwise and would take a child from his family because the parents are gay is plain wrong. Sadly, they should be focusing their attention on the abuse going on across the country of children, not taking children away from a loving environment.

17. Florida has been trying to destroy this family for years . . .
and it's disgusting . . . as these guys have so eloquently proven, gays and lesbians often take in kids that no one else wants -- HIV positive kids, AIDS babies, disruptive teens that everyone's given up on, etc. . .

I know because I had three "incorrigible" teens in long-term foster placements some years back . . . all three were headed for jail or for an early death because the system had given up on them . . . all they needed was some love and to be convinced that, despite what everyone had told them, they were NOT bad people and had real worth as individuals . . . years later, all three have defied the odds and their case workers' "informed" opinions and are doing well as productive, independent members of society . . .

people who believe gays can't take care of kids have their heads so far up their asses you'd need a very large winch to extract them . . . Lofton, Croteau, and their kids deserve all the support we can give them . . .

19. The word "evil" comes to mind.
When the baby was "tainted" it was okay with Florida to have a "deviant" taking care of it.

That's just fucking sick that now they want to take him away.

22. Those two men are angels.
I am thinking about how hard it is for me to deal with two kids and these guys have six, all with complicated health issues. And now those hatemongers want to take the boy away form the only home he has ever known? That is insane. It makes me cry just to think about it.

24. I guess ripping families apart is the right-wing
version of "family values". I'm glad to see the ACLU is on the case! The right wing is long overdue for total destruction.

It's time for those that oppose the right wing to support this organization!

27. Absolutely sickening.
The evil of this action makes me literally sick to my stomach.

They're the only family this little boy has ever known. It's, by all accounts, a loving family that has done everything possible to give him the best possible life, and they're taking him away because one parent is the wrong gender.

Fuck George Bush's America.
