One Million Reasons to end the war in Iraq (Code Pink)
http://www.demaction.org/dia/organizations/codepink/tellafriend.jsp?tell_a_friend_KEY=343&t=OMR_spread_word.dwt

Ask your friends to sign-up with their reason to end the war in Iraq, and tell them about the three massive days of action against the war on Sept 24-26 and ask them to join us in Washington DC for this soon-to-be historic weekend!

About One Million Reasons

CODEPINK has launched an innovative, new initiative called One Million Reasons to End the War in Iraq.

The idea is for people from all over the world to write in with their reasons why we must stop the occupation. We want people from all walks of life--celebrities, veterans, mothers, environmentalists, people of faith, health care providers, teachers, students, elected officials, union members, business leaders--to join the global call.

On September 26, as part of the big Washington DC mobilization against the war, we'll be delivering these messages directly to the White House, as well as to the Iraqi people through the Iraqi media. The reasons will be delivered by people in the 'uniforms' of the occupations or organizations they represent. We want to show the breadth of the community being ignored by the White House and send a message to the world.

We encourage organizations to join in and be represented. Go to become a supporter and send this message out to your community.

1. Since we're a "democratic republic"... in theory anyway....
why not spend more time and energy trying to influence our reps directly through lobbying/endorsements, etc.

No offense.... big street demos aren't really effective on this issue ( 10 million people... myself included... demonstrated on the street prior to the invasion; did it do any good?).

And the media "initiatives" aren't likely to produce results since the $$$ media ignores groups like Code Pink anyway.

Why the war opposition doesn't hone in on the elected reps who are making this war possible is an absolute mystery to me. In the NYC mayoral race, the outspokenly pro-war Mayor Bloomberg is seeking reelection.

You remember Bloomberg: "The time for demonstrations has passed." and "No you may not have a permit to rally against the war during the Republican National Convention."

Do the national antiwar groups have a position on Bloomberg's reelection? No.

Do Bloomberg's DEM opponents make an issue of his war support or his harassment of antiwar groups? No.

Do they seek they seek the support of antiwar groups? No. Why bother? The groups are too busy organizing yet another pointless Washington demo in September to try to actually INFLUENCE the political process.

Let's leave 60's- era tactics back in the 60's and get *serious* about ending this war.

3. You're in luck! The UFP&J group is organizing lobbying days
after the March!
I'm sure you'll want to jump at that opportunity. :)

6. My fondest memories of West by God Virginia
Those twilight times when all is calm, all is peaceful, and all is pink. The sky is a blaze and there is a pink glow that hangs in the air. It relaxes the mind and sooths the soul. It's something you have to experience to understand. The mountain natives call it, "the pink moment." It's amazing.
