William Rivers Pitt in Texas! Here's where you can see and hear Will!
Edited on Thu Sep-04-03 09:37 AM by GOPisEvil
Monday, September 15th, 12:00-1:00pm: Will is scheduled to be on the "Open Journal" program on KPFT, Pacifica Radio, 90.1FM Houston, 89.5FM Galveston.

Monday, September 15th, 7:00pm @ The Azteca Restaurant, 2207 Richmond Ave. in Houston. This is a fundraiser for KPFT Radio. Help keep Pacifica Radio alive in Houston. The KPFT web site is: www.kpft.org

Tuesday, September 16th, 7:00pm, University of Texas campus, Jester 121 (21st St. @ Speedway, parking in the Brazos Garage 1 block south). This is the second town hall meeting on the Patriot Act, the Victory Act and the Austin City Council Resolution Vote upcoming on these things. This town hall meeting is sponsored by the Texas Bill of Rights Defense Council: www.texasbordc.org

Neither of these groups has added these events to their web sites, but I'll get on that ASAP.

Now, as for the fun, I'm planning something for Sunday evening 5:30 or 6:00pm, but I can't find a suitable location that isn't booked. Edit - this event would be in Austin, sorry for any inconvenience.

3. Hey - see if you can work out an event yourself.
I just got the bright idea one fine day that Austin would be a good place for Will to visit. Turned out bigger than I imagined. :-)

Contact the man; he'd be happy to sell a few more books.

Edited on Thu Sep-11-03 01:34 PM by GOPisEvil
The show is The Progressive Forum, and it airs 8pm-10pm in Houston. The interview is being taped earlier, so I don't know when it will be on, but check KPFT out tonight.

18. We will be drinking for sure
We should know the results of the Saturday election on the Texas Constitutional amendments. We'll be celebrating Will's visit for sure I just hope we'll be celebrating all over. The news about a higher turnout in Travis county is a good sign. Prop 12 is going to die or live by 50,000 votes or so. Travis could be the stake that kills it.
So vote on Saturday if you already haven't.

Then come celebrate with us on Sunday.

19. Hey, don't forget Kucinich in Houston on Sunday
the 14th. Dennis will be at Drexler's BBQ on Dowling Street for a rally at 3pm Sunday. He's also doing some fundraisers before and after. A buddy of mine has been invited to the "after-rally" and he promises to ask Dennis about the electronic voting machine scandal. If any of the candidates might mention Diebold, Dennis would!

Will will be on the air in Austin too on Tuesday appearing at 6:00pm on KOOP radio 91.7fm on the Progressive Show. Tune in and then be sure to come to Jester for his talk. Parking is also available right off campus across from the Bob Bullock state museum. That's right on Speedway/Congress & 21st.

Remember buy your books in advance at your local bookstore.

26. Great event in Austin tonight
Will had a great presentation. We had the added benefit of actually getting a US Assistant Attorney General, who also teaches at UT Law School as one of the panelists on the Bill of Rights Defense Committee discussion. He was there to support the patriot act and he even admitted that it would be like one of us going on Rush Limbaugh show - a tough crowd. You had to give him a little credit for trying to get his message out. The guy's name was Ron Siebert and he really did try to push the whole "trust me" (trust the Government) routine. That's our story and we're sticking to it. Almost all the Q&A got thrown at him at the end. I don't think he swayed one person in the room but maybe he got enough of an earful from real people that he might go back and do some more investigating.

Will had a great line during his speech where he addressed Siebert and said something like, "You're asking us to trust you and the government. Well my answer is Hell No! " (Lots of applause)

Thank you Will for taking the time to come to Texas and thanks GOPisEvil for working on this.

Let's not forget why we were there tonight and make sure you take this action to fax the Austin City Council on the Patriot Act. Jackie is out their sticking her neck out for us, lets show her some support.

From: Matt Howes, National Internet Organizer, ACLU
To: ACLU Action Network Members
Date: September 16, 2003

The Austin City Council is currently considering a resolution that reaffirms the City's commitment to defend the fundamental rights enshrined in our Constitution. One recent attack on these rights was the USA PATRIOT Act, a bill that Congress adopted just 45 days after the September 11 tragedies. This sweeping legislation undercuts many important checks and balances on government law enforcement and intelligence powers.

The PATRIOT Act and other post-9/11 government actions have created a groundswell of opposition from all parts of the political spectrum. Resolutions opposing the PATRIOT Act have been adopted in 162 communities in 28 states (including three state-wide resolutions) -- representing about 19 million people.

The resolution currently being considered in Austin will be voted on as early as the September 25 Austin City Council meeting and needs your support.

36. Just listened to the interview GOPisEvil
And you are right they were very intelligent interviewers. Good talk radio show, wish we could get Pacifica here in Austin.

On a related note there are a group of people working to try to get Democracy Now broadcasting in Austin. Here's the message I got recently.

Sonia

From: Stefan Wray
Subject: Support Local Broadcast Of Democracy Now!

Support Local Broadcast Of Democracy Now!

This week we are one step closer to the Austin community being able to watch
Democracy Now! on cable access TV.

On Tuesday we had a satellite dish installed at ACAC and the signal of Free
Speech TV - the carrier of Democracy Now! - is now received at the station.

All agreements have been signed. Our paperwork for the fall series is in. We
are just waiting to learn about channel and time slot allocation.

Democracy Now! will begin TV broadcast in Austin in October.

But we at Austin For Democracy Now! still need your financial support.

Please go to http://www.iconmedia.org/democracynow/ for details on local
broadcast and to learn how you can support this effort.

Thanks,
Stefan Wray

37. Excellent!!!!

KPFT is going to send video of Will's talk to Democracy Now. When they had Palast in Houston, DN aired his entire talk. Will's was long in Houston - well over 2 hours, so they might have to edit.

Also, I talked to the ACAC guy Tuesday. He's going to try to convert the town hall meeting to DVD. :-)
