Join Wal-Mart Watch's new Price Check project
From an email I got:

<snip>

So this month, Wal-Mart Watch -- an organization DFA works closely with -- needs your help launching a nationwide project to test Wal-Mart's low-price guarantee once and for all.

http://www.democracyforamerica.com/pricecheck

There has been a lot of speculation about Wal-Mart's pricing tactics. Do they price nationally, regionally or store-by-store? Do they cut prices upon moving into a new community only to raise them when free of nearby competition? Do they lure customers with bargains on featured items only to stick it to them on more mundane goods? We need your help finding out.

Wal-Mart Watch has chosen five everyday household products, commonly available in discount and grocery stores across America. For less than $15 dollars, you can purchase these items and verify the date of sale and total price of each by completing an online questionnaire and mailing in a copy of your sales receipt.

Wal-Mart Watch has asked DFA to kick off this project quickly, before Wal-Mart has an opportunity to respond on the store-level. If you are willing to help in this important test, please make it a point to do your shopping within the next 48 hours and report your findings on the form linked below.

1. While you are at Walmart pick up a fifth of jack Daniels...
Walmart is exploring ways to put your local liquer store out of business.

3. You can leave anti Wal-Mart fliers in items around the store
And you can take the Bill O'Reilly books off the bookshelves and move them to the "feminine hygiene products" shelf next to the items that are supposed to keep you "fresh as a summer's day."

2. I'll do it. As the page says, you can always return the items the next day
Boy, it sure might fuck with them if enough people return $15 worth of items each the next day!

4. better idea
Find the products cheaper elsewhere, then take them to walmart for a refund.

Walmart policy is to accept anything, receipt or not (son works there)for refund. He says they have a regular return customer who buys a lawn mower on friday, apparently mows his yard on saturday, then returns the mower on sunday, grass still stuck to it and everything.
He repeats this almost weekly.

They will give you credit for non-receipt items, and a regular refund with a receipt.

5. Wow. And I thought my idea to use Sears as a gym was naughty
Just show-up at Sears a few times a week in your sweats to use the treadmills and exercise bikes.

And when you're done, get your sweaty ass over to Brookstone's for a nice lounging in the expensive massage chair.

6. I never thought I would do something like this but
considering it is Walmart I think it is more like social justice. Maybe I could buy a high definition TV to watch for the weekend.

What about CD'S? Do they take them back also? Better then renting them at Block Buster.

7. Menard's might be a good one to pit against them...
I was at their garden center the other day. They had a whole display of plants and flowers. The sign read "Buy one at $2.99, take as many others you want free!"

You could take them back to Walmart, one at a time.

8. Caveat
Careful on any 'conclusions' when pricing descrepencies are initially id'd.

Since Wal-Mart eventually strong-arms vendors into ridiculously low prices, some large vendors have successfully negotiated 'regional pricing', and thus a product may cost Wal-Mart something different in each region ( based mainly on lower transportation costs to Wal-Mart, or the vendor just sucking it up ).
