submitted it 2 days ago. Just got my broadband back and have been bombarding Jackson, Meridian and Hattiesburg papers.
Where was Bush when needed here?
On Sunday, Aug. 28, Hurricane Katrina was a category 5 hurricane destined to hit the Gulf Coast. Where was George Bush? On vacation.
On Aug. 29, Katrina made landfall. Where was George? On vacation and pushing his prescription drugs program out West.
On Tuesday, Aug. 30 as we were picking up debris, searching for loved ones and friends, lighting candles, looking for ice and gas and checking on the neighbors, where was George? On vacation and attending a fund-raiser.
On Wednesday, Aug. 31, he decided to drop under the clouds in Air Force One and have a little look-see at our state.
On Thursday, he decided to come visit us on Friday.
On Friday, he visited Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. His photo-ops were strategically timed with the arrival, finally, of federally supplied food and water.
All helicopter search-and-rescue missions and food drops were canceled while he was on the ground and in the air space — for security reasons.
On Saturday, he returned to Washington to start shifting the blame to local officials.
I am certain that he is now back in the White House trying to figure out which Republican he can appoint to come take over this mess he has helped to create by cutting the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' budget in New Orleans for the third year in a row and decimating the Federal Emergency Management Agency and then appointing another friend of a friend with no experience to run it.
I will never use the term "President" next to George Bush's name.
