NAACP needs volunteers in Baton Rouge
This morning I spoke with a friend who is a NAACP volunteer in Baton Rouge and she told me that the NAACP is calling for more volunteers for shelter outreach in Baton Rouge and to document evacuees' stories in anticipation of a future congressional investigation and other actions.

Contact:

NAACP Headquarters
1755 Nicholson
Baton Rouge, LA.
(225) 334-7490

Please take a look at the great work the NAACP is doing in providing immediate relief efforts and partnering with organizations that are community-based, as well as those that command wider communicative resources such as MoveOn.Org.Civic Action:

"The Baton Rouge branch of the NAACP has been recognized nationally as one of the top branches in the country." 8/16/05 more:

Please pass this on to other activists/legal professionals/people looking to join up with an organization that has deep and abiding roots in defending civil rights!

1. Iam leaving Sun am for that exact shelter.......................
Iam a volunteer with the upstate NY red cross, I will be updating daily from the shelter to a few friends. If you would like me to send you a daily remark from that shelter mail me. Iam asking for NOTHING from anyone,so this is purely to help. I repair computers up here and told they have some although they need people to network and basicly show people how to navigate to search for family members. I will arrive this sunday at 3pm at Baton Rouge and do my best to help for 3 weeks.

2. Keep us posted...
Thanks, it would be great to hear from you! I can't believe that people are still in the dark about the whereabouts of family members! An agency with the budget that FEMA has should have been ready to respond to such a disaster with a plan and a staff to get to exactly where you're going.

Please let me know if there are items difficult to obtain locally that are needed in the shelter and I will try to help out. (I just sent three boxes of supplies to Veterans for Peace in Covington where Michael Moore's staff is also based).

Safe travel!
