MASSIVE US RALLY AGAINST BUSH
Are you going?

worldcantwait.org

I've heard they may be a 'communist front' like ANSWER. Does anyone have any evidence that this is true? Is it just red-baiting?

I'm going to go to this rally. I want the * Admin gone, and I have little faith in DLC centrists.

they're right. I'll ally myself with anyone fighting against this war. Doesn't mean that being around them automatically makes me a communist.

9. It's sad but true.
I'm not a communist, but why is it that no one else is speaking out against this tyrannical, theocratic administration. I'll go with who is moving things along.

37. Where've I been? Protesting and teaching at a university.
My point is that some people won't attend ANSWER or other rallies because the organizers are supposedly (or in some cases, actually) Communists. My only point was that I'll support them regardless because they are the ones doing the legwork.

And obviously, enough people have not taken to the streets because this regime is still in power. I prefer WCW's get Bush Out rally because as far as I'm concerned this illegal war is only a symptom of the problem-- a huge and fatal symptom, but we need to cut the cancer out at the root: the fascist, anti-worker, anti-family, anti-human, anti-science, anti-environment wackos in office and those who advise their policy.

3. World Can't Wait is, in fact, a commie front...
Specifically, a front for the Revolutionary Communist Party. (rwor.org).
So, actually, it's worse than ANSWER in that sense. While ANSWER caters to such groups, World Can't Wait is literally an arm of the communist party.
On the other hand, who else is organizing protests?

6. Thanks for the info.
So then, ANSWER only 'caters to' or includes the voice of communists (which, theoretically, I don't mind at this point) while WCW is communist.

WHY ARE ONLY COMMUNISTS ORGANIZING! WTF!!!! Are these honestly my choices???!!!!

14. Really? Visit their own Web sites.
Like I pointed out above, the Revolutionary Communist Party's Web site (rwor.org) is all about World Can't Wait.

And ANSWER's Web site (www.internationalanswer.org) in cludes it's steering committee, which includes not just commies, but apologists for Kim Jong Il:

 Steering Committee:
                        IFCO/Pastors for Peace
                        Free Palestine Alliance - U.S.
                        Haiti Support Network
Partnership for Civil Justice - LDEF
                        Nicaragua Network
Alliance for Just and Lasting Peace in the Phillippines
                        Korea Truth Commission
                        Muslim Student Association - National
                        Kensington Welfare Rights Union
                        Mexico Solidarity Network
                        Party for Socialism and Liberation
                        Middle East Children's Alliance

I know it sucks. But it's true. All I can say is, the enemy of my enemy... well, you know the rest.

16. I know about ANSWER. And, yes, the RWOR site is all about WCW.
But there are many supporters on the WCW page who are not communist organizations. Is it possible that WCW is just inclusive of communists?

Still, the enemy of my enemy has got to be my friend in this case. With front liners like St. Marks Episcopal Church in NYC, it isn't going to SOUND communist, at least.

Right now, I'll take what I can get. I see folks not doing much of anything, and then I see rallies. I don't think the rallies can hurt.

Besides, freepers don't the difference between commies and democrats anyway. To the fascists, we're all commies.

the RCP even releases WCW's press releases, fer chrissake.

Like I said, I'm not saying whether it's bad or good. Just saying. I agree with you -- enemy of my enemy is certainly my friend. The only real problem I have with ANSWER is that they tend to confuse issues. At an antiwar rally, they'll be screaming about Mumia or something.

17. Don't see anything wrong with these causes and do not see the connection
U are talking about as well as the thousands that were in DC. This is not a communist organization in itself. There may be some times that their connection could be close but it is not part of the party.

Stop the War in Iraq
End Colonial Occupation from Iraq to Palestine to Haiti
Support the Palestinian People’s Right of Return
Stop the Threats Against Venezuela, Cuba, Iran & North Korea
U.S. Out of the Philippines
U.S. Out of Puerto Rico
Bring all the troops home now
Stop the Racist, anti-Immigrant and anti-Labor Offensive at Home, Defend Civil Rights
Military Recruiters Out of Our Schools and Communities

26. I'm aware ANSWER isn't part of the party...
but WCW certainly is. As I stated above, the RCP even issues WCW's press releases. So, unless WCW has hired the RCP as its publicist, I'm afraid the two are one in the same.

But also like I said above, I don't necessarily think that the nature of the organization is a bad thing. Yes, they're commies. So what? In WWII, the commies were our allies against the fascists. Today, then can have the same role.

35. Answer has a bigger tent than the dems
Many people in the anti-bush movement have an agenda that the right wing deems "communist" but let's not allow them to put words in our mouths.
I do remember many "socialist" groups at the last "Answer" rally I went to, but Al Sharpton and Viggo Mortensen were there as well.

What do you have against the kwru?

11. I like this protest because it calls for Bush to step down.
It is not a 'one issue' protest. While the War in Iraq is (and should be) a top issue, if we don't get the PNAC out of power we are going to have non-stop perpetual war and NO ONE will be safe.

18. If you people pander to McCarthuism, you deserve to lose!
So what if some communists helped initiate "World Can't Wait?" I hear so many progresives whine about how the DLCers and Democratic leadership won't fight the right. Well, these people are offering leadership. They're not demanding everyone espouse a communist position, but they deserve credit for organizing and working hard while others merely sit on the sidelines.

21. Communists have a place in a progressive alliance.
They are marginal to the political scene, and are hardly a danger to the constitutional order as compared with the fascists who are running things. Please, people, get some perspective. There is a real, ongoing danger of actual fascism. We need as broad a front as possible, and these activists, "communist" or not, belong in that front.

I'll take my chances with Leslie Feinberg (transsexual writer and IWW organizer) over George F. Bush. I don't feel like I have time to be picky anymore. I need to protest. I'm sure there will be other NON-COMMUNISTS there. Probably around 95%.

Until John Kerry organizes a protest, I'll go where I must.

Edited on Fri Oct-14-05 03:38 PM by watrwefitinfor
had sat around pondering crap like this so hard this country would still be sending the boys off to Vietnam.

It's called a United Front fer crissake.

You unite with those who can be united with around issues you share in common. It was the inability (hardheadedness) of the socialists and communists to form a united front and provide real leadership in Germany that led DIRECTLY to Hitler's seizure of power.

Anybody ever hear of New Mobe? That was the National Mobilization Committee to End the War in Vietnam - or something like that. All sorts of groups participated. Theoretically, whichever group had the best representatives and had the best ideas and organization pretty much dominated. But theoretically everyone got to input their own ideas, too. There was lots of faction fighting, plenty of disagreement, and so on. But that's the nature of a United Front. And by god they got the people turned out to demonstrate.

Or you could sit here and gnaw your nails worrying about somehow supporting a dread commie who hates the same Bush you hate for pretty much the same reasons.

This isn't directed at the OP. Just at the paranoia in general. Get over it. You more fraid of commies than you are of Bushco?

Wat

(Edit for senior moment: big mobe, new mobe, old mobe - whatever!)

31. Yes, I'm not afraid of 'the commies.'
I just wanted to know who I would be marching alongside. And I WILL be protesting. I'm gay and if HOMOPHOBES FOR REGIME CHANGE were organizing the march, I'd still be there with bells on.

I'm slightly fearful of ANSWER, not because it's communist but because I read some posts that showed evidence of its founder being a former CIA agent. That lead me to worry (I know it sounds paranoid) that somehow ANSWER might be a 'leftist control valve' for a fascist regime. But this WCW thing seems pretty grassroots. Also, it has the ability to 'muddy the message' because it ISN'T about the Iraq war: it's about REGIME CHANGE.

I think that REGIME CHANGE is the broadest platform we could want.

39. LibertyWalk 2008: A 4,913 Mile Walk For The US Constitution
On January 1, 2008, the 4,913 mile journey of the organizers and volunteers of the LibertyWalk will begin with one step, with each mile symbolizing every word in the United States Constitution. During the 185-day event which departs from Austin, Texas, LibertyWalk will remain non-partisan, and participants will cover 20 states, averaging 26.5 miles per day or a little over a marathon each day, until returning to conclude in Austin on Independence Day, July 4, 2008.

The shape of a star, symbolizing "hope," will form the points of the travel. Within each leg of the star, the charitable LibertyWalk will be creating awareness about a specific project, and current issues the United States faces regarding each project, while raising money for local charities nationwide. Projects of the star include:

. Awareness
. Civil Rights
. Veteran's Rights
. Peace
. Equality
. Poverty
. Education
. Environment
. Constitutional Rights
. Immigration

At each of the five points of the star, rallies will be held, creating a platform for all citizens to speak to the nation regarding projects just completed or those about to begin.

Rally Dates And Locations:

Austin, TX (Kickoff): Jan. 1, 2008
Tallahassee, FL: Feb. 16, 2008
Washington, DC: Mar. 23, 2008
Green Bay, WI: May 3, 2008
Lincoln, NE: May 31, 2008
Austin, TX (Return): July 4, 2008

For additional information on LibertyWalk 2008, contact Cody Lunsford or visit www.libertywalk.org.

ABOUT LIBERTYWALK 2008

The LibertyWalk is a charitable organization that will journey across the eastern United States to create awareness for some of the toughest issues the country is facing. (The LibertyWalk has applied for 501(c)(3) status). In 2008, the group will walk 4,913 miles, or 26.5 miles per day, for the United States' constitution and liberties, in the shape of a star, symbolizing "hope." The money raised during the walk will go towards local charities nationwide. The event will begin on New Year's Day and end on the Fourth of July, crossing 20 states in 185 days.
