If you are an Episcopalian...
There's a petition on a new Web site for the "American Anglican Council." The site says, "We are a network of mainstream Anglicans in the Episcopal Church." They are unhappy with some of the outcomes of General Convention.

Their home page is here: http://www.americananglican.org/

Their survey is here:
http://www.americananglican.org/surveys/surveyText.cfm?surveyID=2

Please take a few minutes to fill out the survey and send it in. Please share this action alert with your own Episcopal networks. It is important that our voices are heard.

(I come from a progressive and compassionate Episcopal church
that was working for the ordination of the gay priest to become
bishop and am sorry to see other Anglicans working to separate
the church further)

Will spread it to appropriate people in the parish....At our small town parish we had a meeting on the subject. 15 people spoke for the new Bishop and inclusiveness. One spoke against (and he's already said he's likely to leave). And this is in the deep south.... Steve

2. This is sad....I'm a progressive Episcopalian, too.
don't read too much into that...I am no radical but I was buoyed by the selection of a gay Bishop.

Geez...the associate pastor of my church is a lesbian and she is a terrific minister of great devotion and compassion for the congregation.

And when my wife's nephew came out, she helped us keep some elements in the family from crashing and burning.

To my knowledge, NOBODY had any problems with her selection a few years back, especially after they met her. There have been two or three gay couples that have started attending, too, and no one has said 'boo' about that, either. (not sure if these guys have actually joined or they like to drop in on a service now and then.)

The old-time Anglicans seem to be dedlining an opportunity to strengthen the church. Kind of like the goofy old priest when I was a kid who sermonized on the need for us to rescue our neighbors "wallowing in the wilderness of Lutheranism!"

3. Most American groups that include "Anglican"
in their title lean away from progressive agendas, don't they?

4.  These guys are an off shoot...
of the Episcopal Church. While Episcopalians are Anglicans, and the majority of Episcopalians are liberal, these smaller offshoots who identify as the "Anglican Commune" whatever are generally quite conservative. They are very few in number, mostly people who never got over allowing women to become Priests. They're even small Anglican groups who left when we revised the 1928 Prayerbook.

Some people live to be contrary.

5. My understanding exactly.
These are folk who fear change. I wonder if their faith is a comfort to them in this changing world.
