There will be a rally in Washington D.C. on Sunday, October 5,
2003
for Separation of Church and State. On this date, the
supporters of
Roy Moore, the Alabama Ten Commandments judge, will hold a rally
at
Capitol Hill and the Supreme Court to drum up support and
publicity
for Moore's efforts to keep his 5,280-pound Ten Commandments
monument
in an Alabama courthouse. This flagrant
violation of church-state separation has been making national
headlines,
and Moore is determined to bring his case to the Supreme Court
to clear
the way for similar displays in government buildings all around
the country.
Since the Voices of Reason must be heard to counteract the
voices of
theocracy, there will be a counter-demonstration to show our
nation's
capitol (and the media) how much we value church-state
separation
which has served this country well for so long. Supporters of
Moore
lose on constitutional grounds but can win in the forum of
public
opinion because they very loudly distort our history,
misinterpret
our law, and misrepresent the issues. It is time for US to set
the
record straight and educate the public with the truth.
Our demonstration will begin at the Supreme Court (precise
location will
be forthcoming) at 2:45pm on October 5th . Moore's supporters
plan to
start their "God Save the United States Rally" at 3pm - see
http://www.spiritofmontgomery.org/Caravan.htm or
http://www.faithandaction.org/ for more information on their
theocratic agenda. More details to follow.
Everything will be "bring your own" for this rally. Parking is
available at Union Station, a few blocks away - see
http://www.unionstationdc.com.If you have never publicly demonstrated before, it is an
invigorating
experience, and incredibly easy. Hold a sign, chat with your
fellow
supporters, and feel free to enlighten any inquiring minds who
pass by.
Show your support for a worthwhile cause, and meet other people
who feel
the same way! This demonstration is promising to be a fantastic
event
because:
1. The Ten Commandments have been THE most covered media issue
in
church-state separation this year - and now it's in OUR
backyard! For
all of you watching the news and wishing you could have helped
in
Alabama, or anywhere else, here is your chance.
2. Great weather! Fall season - no heat wave, and no ice and
snow.
3. In our nation's capitol! It doesn't get more patriotic or
more
central than this.
4. It's on a weekend! Demonstrations are fun, and when they
are
convenient they are even better.
5. Great company! These gatherings are wonderful social
gatherings,
and great for meeting people whom you've only known through
cyberspace.
