H.R. 3282
Received an email from AAUW (American Association of University Women) regarding H.R. 3282 which would:

This bill would require Congress to vote up or down on proposals of the sunset commission to eliminate programs and agencies. There would be no opportunity for amendments or public input. There would be no limit to the programs targeted by the sunset commission. Education and job training programs such as Perkins college loans and Pell grants would be subject to elimination as would retirement security programs such as Social Security and Medicare.

AAUW opposes this bill and other sunset commission bills because rather than evaluating programs in the light of day through the authorization and appropriations process as is done now, this commission would push the reorganization and termination process behind closed doors to be conducted by unelected and unaccountable political appointees.

So this could very well be their back door to eliminating programs like Social Security and Medicare as well as any other program they deemed unnecessary. Programs that have been fought for and won would have to pass again. No input from the citizens.

You can put in your zip to check and see how your congressperson voted and send the action letter that they provide.
