We are at a crossroads. Years of wrong-headed policies and disgraceful practices have put our government on a dangerous course on human rights.

But we have an opportunity to reverse this course... and choose another path.

We must close the U.S. detention facilities at Guantanamo Bay.

Guantanamo Bay has come to symbolize the United States' turning away from human rights principles, and it is a stark example of the failure of our own government to uphold fundamental principles of fairness and due process.

It's not enough for you and me to criticize U.S. policies and practices that defy and undermine our most deeply held beliefs. We must demonstrate our ability to end the daily human rights violations that are carried out in our name.
