Did anybody else suspect this bru-ha-ha over the torture statutes and the Geneva conventions was a diversion in its own right to hold a quiet secret vote on the wiretap bill?
You were right.
MoveOn wants you to cut and paste this text into an email to everybody you know so they bury the Senate in demands to go after the White House wiretapper.

Subject: Don't let the Senate let President Bush off the hook for breaking the law.
Hi,
This week, the Senate is planning to quietly hold a vote that would pardon President Bush for breaking the law by illegally wiretapping innocent Americans.
The bill would let the administration off the hook for breaking the law and make it legal to wiretap Americans, in secret, without any oversight whenever they want to.
Democrats and some Republicans are holding strong against it, and if enough of us speak up we can stop it. Can you sign the petition opposing the Republican move to pardon President Bush for breaking the law?

After they click on the link, it whisks them to an automated email-your-senator program where you can insert a personal message.  My "personal message" was as polite as I could make it:  

I am outraged that American soldiers are fighting and dying to try to bring accountability to government and democracy in Iraq, while our President seeks to bend the laws in Congress to avoid upholding them himself.
Vote to uphold the FISA law and crack down on lawbreakers like President Bush, General Hayden, and others who want to trample on civil liberties in the name of "security."
