The Power of Lies| Email spamming-We should do it.
You ever get those emails that end up being dispelled by Snopes?

A co-worker of mine stopped shopping at Target for 3 years after receiving the following email:

TARGET STORES DO NOT SUPPORT VETERANS!!!
Subject: Vietnam vets not worthy?

Vietnam Veterans Not Worthy Of Target's Help?
By Dick Forrey, Vietnam Veterans Association.

We asked our local Target store to be a sponsor of the Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Wall during our spring recognition event. We received back a reply from Target management that "veterans do not meet our area of giving. We only donate to the areas of arts, social actions and education."

My thought: If the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and the Vietnam veteran himself, does not meet the criteria of these areas, something is wrong at Target. We were not asking for thousands of dollars, not even hundreds, but simply sponsorship endorsement for a "memorial remembrance".

As follow-up, I e-mailed the Corporate Headquarters and their response was the same. Personally, I will NOT be buying anything at Target Stores again. If the Vietnam Veteran does not meet their area of giving then why should I as a Vietnam veteran, spend my hard earned money in their stores?

Please pass this on to as many people as you know. Maybe Target and other businesses will get the message.

Also, remember the one that went around about "Bush Covered It"? Giving credit to Bush for the things that Clinton had done?

I say we put our heads together and start sending are own emails out. We have story-telling skills that can anger and manipulate the uninformed. We don't even have to do much lying!

What do you think?

1. Lying? Absolutely NOT.
We have plenty of damning truth to tell -- why on earth would you want to sink to the reTHUG level of twisting facts or lying?

2. Because it's effective. We've got to stop getting our asses kicked
on the high road.

3. No.
Like I said, we have plenty of damning truth to tell. Let the reTHUGs keep on lying and we'll keep calling them on it.

Our problem is lack of aggression, not being right. We just need to be more aggressive with THE TRUTH.

Your e-mail idea is a good one. Just stick to facts and don't sink to lies.

4. What are the elements of a good one? First, it needs to be personal.
The story should be told in the first person. State the fact of of an issue and how it's affected someone and how outraged you are about it. Don't go citing sources and statistics that make peoples' eyes glaze over.

People respond to the personal story.

What is an issue that pisses you off? How would you tell it in order to motivate and piss other people off?

Take a news story about a policy is true, then create a lie of a personal, heartfelt story around it.

5. Go for it.
"Take a news story about a policy is true, then create a lie of a personal, heartfelt story around it."

If that's what you want to waste your time on, go for it. It won't get very far before it's loudly debunked and all Dems are called "liars" by the opportunists in the GOP.

It's exactly the same kind of thing I condemn reTHUGs for doing.

It's wrong and self defeating.

6. So what? They call us liars anyway. Persuading people
is the objective.

7. Lies do not persuade and are counterproductive.
Especially when we have more than enough truth to do the job.

That's all I have to say on the subject.
