If someone in a safe district were to hold a fundraiser for a candidate somewhere else in the U.S., who should it be for, and why?

Is there other stuff that can be done from a distance? Mailing? Phone calling? What??

1. Hold a fundraiser for Samm Simpson in FL-10. She is running
against a Bushco rubber stamp who has been in Congress since Nixon was fouling the oval office. DU has a page at Act Blue specifically for her. I heard her speak today of her love of this country, her abhorrence of torture and of the need for the impeachment of * and Cheney. She is the real deal and is waging an uphill battle.

5. Were you down at the new Pinellas campaign HQ today?
I stopped by for a while. Nice turnout. Got to see a lot of people I don't have the time to see much anymore.

9. Bill Young.
I think he's the chair of either Ways and Means or Appropriations.

2. Get on Moveon.org's e-mail list.
They'll suggest progressive candidates to support and make it easy to help them.

3. In 2004 people from Chicago went to Wisconsin to help for Kerry.
You may just want to call your local Democratic Party headquarters and ask, because they may be arranging something or just know of something.

4. The people in Wisconsin probably called them FIBs and
it cost Kerry votes. Anyone from WI knows what a FIB is.

7. Another good race in Florida, is John Russell in the 5th District.
We won a 3 way primary by 10 points, over the party's annointed candidate.

But, because we're not a DCCC targeted race, we're having trouble raising enough money. We have a great, experienced staff, and we feel that we have a good shot at pulling off an upset over Ginny Brown-Waite. She's a chimp, rubber stamp, who has voted with Bush 94% of the time. The only time she broke ranks, was over the Shiavo mess, but she stayed on the fence until public opinion was clear.

10. make sure the district has a huge Democratic turnout, and start
reaching out to Republicans and Independents.

I know, it's so much more fun to call them stupid and treasonous on the internet, and even though that's so very productive (sarcasm), use the opportunity to try to move them over to our column since they're that much less likely to be targetted by the state or national republican party.

Doing both of those things would help the local candidates in your district, and the state candidates where you live. Just because it's "safe" on one level doesn't mean it's locked up for us on all levels for all time, and only work like that would ensure that those races are "safe" too.
