I've contacted a number of Repuke congress-critters who are opposed to The Stem Cell Progress Bill, and asked them to sign a pledge.
I have gotten no response.
I've also contacted Stephen Lynch and Barney Frank, and asked them to press the issue-- no response.
I've contacted Arlen Specter, a Repuke who is in favor of stem cell research because he, personally, is dying from something that might someday be cured through stem cell therapy. No response from Spooky Arlen, either.
Arlen Specter is dying. Of COURSE he's in favor of stem cell research. It's in his own, personal best interest. If his own, personal best interest didn't take precedent over all other considerations, he wouldn't be a Republican, now would he?
But would the pro-blastocyst crowd in congress REALLY be willing to put the cells in a petri dish ahead of their own, personal best interest if it were THEY who had Parkinson's or MS or ALS?
Let's get them on record.
This is the pledge that I ask the blastocyst-fanatics to take:
"I pledge that I will never personally benefit, nor will anyone for whom I have medical responsibility benefit, from any treatment derived from embryonic stem cell therapy or research, even in the face of death."
Please, contact your congress-critters. Ask them to either sign the pledge, or else they need to stand on the floor of Congress, and ask that those opposed to stem cell research sign the pledge.
