March 17 March on the Pentagon?
OK, I know it's early, but not too early to start making plans.

I've created a monster :). I basically dragged my dh to the Jan. protest - he liked the time away w/o the kids :), but he really got motivated.

Some of you met us at the H&D Friday night (he was the only republican there - hates GW - never voted for him).

We've been saying that we want to go Mar. 17, but it would depend on the weather. Last night he said find us a room we're going and taking the kids this time (they're 9 and almost 11). He also invited his sister and husband (who I adore) to go with us.

He's already got the kids chanting "March in March, March in March!"

So who else is going? Any meetups planned??

6. I Made Plans Back On Feb. 12th To Fly From FL. & Bringing My
granddaughter. I'm really really glad I booked when I did, the flight I got and hotel are no longer available. The package deal I got has gone up from $354.00 per person to almost $770.00 per person so I'm glad I started early. Was going to do a hook up but since I'm staying for several more days I felt it would be "safer" for my 11 yr old for us to get a room and easy connections to the Metro.

Plus I wanted a flight without stops, but that flight is no longer available. Wonder what it means.... maybe this will be a BIG ONE!

I plan on letting my granddaughter see a little of D.C. for the first time in her life! I love coming up there, this will be my fifth trip!

I just said "the hell with the cost" I'm going, I'll deal with it somehow! Getting things together for a garage sale for this coming week-end... that will help.

7. I want to go WAH! but I think here in Greensboro we are
also trying to get something worthwhile together, so I'm torn. By the way the Busboys and Poets restaurant and bookstore is AWESOME lots of the progressive folks go there as well.
But keep reminding folks to take ACTION there or locally, sure ST. Pats day is cool too, but if your town has a ST> Pat's Day parade see if you can get a peace themed float in it, or march after, or if they give you BU**SH** march in front of it and SIT down, until they agree you can keep moving and handing out flyers or?????!

11. Declaration of Peace -from an e-mail MORE Actions and info also can LIST yours
Nationwide Declaration of Peace Events: March 16 - 19, 2007
Let Us Know What You Are Planning!

Between March 16th and the 19th, scores of Nonviolent Civil Disobedience Actions and other forms of dramatic, Peaceful resistance will take place in cities and towns across the U.S.A.
These actions are designed to put pressure on Congress to defund the war, to bring the troops home safely, and to support a comprehensive Peace process for Iraq.

Marking the fourth anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq and calling for an immediate end to the U.S. occupation, nationwide DOP events include:

- direct action in Erie, Pennsylvania, and on Wall Street and at recruiting centers in New York City

- nonviolent resistance to the war (memorial, music, speakers, civil disobedience) at Lockheed Martin in King of Prusia, Pennsylvania

- massive die-ins throughout downtown San Francisco, California

- nonviolently shut down recruiting centers in the country's #1 recruiting area, Los Angeles

- candlelight procession to the White House, late-night vigil, and "divine obedience" in Washington, D.C.

Imagine Congressional office occupations, die-ins, recruiting center blockades, and other nonviolent direct actions in cities and towns all across the United States.

Consider organizing an action in your city this month as part of the Nationwide Days of Action for Peace in Iraq, March 16-19.

View other upcoming events at the Declaration of Peace Events Calendar.

Please post your "End the U.S. Occupation of Iraq" events (Vigils, Die-Ins, Nonviolent Direct Action, Rallies, etc.) to the Declaration of Peace website or let us know at declarepeace@mac.com

16. Have You Heard Anything About Meet-Ups Yet???
I've posted at several places, but getting "little" response. At least YOU are keeping this going... I'll help out as much as I can.

I do know there are several groups coming from Florida, but that's about it. There are events planned locally, but I did "local" in January and St. Pete For Peace isn't going to D.C. either. They have some big plans there. I would have gone there had I not decided a while back to come to D.C.

Sarasota actually had a GOOD turn-out considering it's SARASOTA last January 27th! Almost 500 people, and that's really BIG for here! It was pretty hot though, hope the weather is cool, but not too cold. I've lived in the South since FOREVER! It's been so warm here ALL winter and NO RAIN either!

on Friday night at Layfayette Square Park, I'm going to that one alone (not with my usual group) and would be happy to meet up and have dinner after the vigil. I think there is a Ruby Tuesday's between the Metro and Layfayette Sq. on eye st. or it might be a TGIFriday's, I'm not sure.

20. Resistance Lawyer, Buddy Spell, just called from the protest in Washington
I just spoke to the lead counsel for TROOPS OUT NOW, my high school pal, Buddy Spell. The anti-war activists had a little spat with the Capitol Police this morning at the Raeburn Bldg. According to Buddy, our "representatives" on the Appropriations Committee did not want to see us commoners in the their throne, excuse me, meeting room. So, they did the only logical thing; they packed the room with their staffers prior to opening the doors and prevented the public from entering and witnessing the criminal conspiracy contemplated therein. When objections were raised, objectors were arrested. Ten patriots were temporarily incarcerated and all are now out of jail, except for Code Pink's Gael Murphy, who was graced with an unwarranted and ridiculous charge of assault on a police officer. Follow the link - http://encampmenttostopthewar.blogspot.com -for pictures and additional comments.

This was not a public hearing! This was a farce in which our elected representatives refuse to be exposed to their own hypocrisy, both Democrats and Republicans. This was not what we elected them to Congress to do. We want the peoples' business done in public and in the daylight. Sunshine is the best antiseptic known to democracy.

Our Democrats need to be reminded that in less than two years, there will be an election. An election for the very seats they now hold and they hope to retain. We must remind them that the key to the seat they hold is OUR vote. State your opposition to their cowardice.

In the meantime, we can remind them of their obligations and their duty to us by being out on the Mall this week. We need to join the encampment and become part of the OCCUPATION of Washington. We need to join the march on the Pentagon. Come to the Mall, there are tents to be filled. Come to the Mall and march on the Pentagon. Come to the Mall and make yourself heard in opposition to the corporate elite. Come to Mall for the sake of your children.

We're on our way today after work, kids in tow! The region we have to travel through (mountains of PA) are expecting a final (we hope) blast of winter. I'm keeping my fingers, toes, and everything else crossed that it only sounds worse than it will be.

22. Welcome to DU!
May your acting up be successful! Keep us informed of your activities this weekend. I'll be in the march tomorrow. I thought they were going to have an Impeachment contingient, but seems they backed out of that one. A bus of about 35 of us are coming up from Woodbridge and Manassas, Virginia. Some of my friends are involved with the Christian march tonight and might be arrested. Actually that might be preferable to driving home.

24. (me too, even though I wouldn't have found you)
And I wish the weather had been like last week instead of almost freezing.
I took some pictures (that I'll post tomorrow) and I got interviewed! (by who I do NOT know, but it was about the Walter Reed stuff) and right after we'd crossed the bridge I was with a group that got smoke-bombed (just some smoke, no tear gas I don't think)
There seemed to be more pro-war people at this-I took a good picture of a guy with a "Peace sucks" sign.. really, ponder that shit.. "PEACE SUCKS"? I'm gonna post that picture all over the place. Maybe that fool doesn't deserve my attention but the fact that someone thought it was worth making a sign and bringing it to the capital just makes me sick, everyone needs to think about that for a second x(
(When it kinda ended I walked around the storage buildings and warehouses between the Pentagon and the highways, I crossed the water a couple of times looking for a place that I could tell my husband where to pick me up. Then's the part I'm lucky I survived I think.. there were just 2 more people around, 2 more lost protesters who probably knew I was just following them.)

cell number somewhere between Florida & D.C. and waited to hear from you. Now I know why! I FOUND the number... left on a post-it at HOME! I thought I had put it in my wallet, but when I emptied some of the "extra" stuff I didn't want to take, it got stuck to something else.

26. Just Got Back Home From D.C. About An Hour Ago.... AND
decided to check to see if anyone posted anything. Imagine my surprise when I got there Friday morning (flight on time) but couldn't check into my motel til 3:00 P.M. and it was FREEZING! Coming from Florida where in my part of the world we probably didn't get lower than 45 degrees all winter and it was in the low 30's! We trudged around (my granddaughter & I) at the Smithsonian's thinking it would be a dry and warm place, however we had out suitcases with us and couldn't find a locker to stash the stuff in.

So far I don't see much coverage here, but for what it's worth.... I'm very very glad I went! Even though when we FINALLY got to the Rally site, so many many people were so so cold they didn't stay to listen to the speeches. I know we stayed for about 15 minutes until we headed back to find warmth at our motel. I don't think there were as many as there were in September, 2005, the place was over-flowing. Media just didn't seems to cover the MARCH, just the people at the Rally.... and that wasn't a good depiction of how many were there.

We stayed until this morning and just happened to get passes to the Senate and while we were there watched Feinstein, then Specter and THEN LEAHY give his speech about GONE-ZALES and "the firings!" After Leahy spoke, up came Kyl so we hot-footed it out of there along with most of the gallery!

I don't care what ANYONE says about the March and how ANSWER is Reich-Wing... IMO, they ARE NOT!

Having lived in the south for almost 50 years, the freezing weather was really something, but something I will never forget. My granddaughter and I have been laughing and laughing because we actually got stuck out in it for 6 hours on Friday BEFORE the March and did not have the proper clothing. I had a super hard time getting my hands to bend and my nose was red as Rudolph's and running all the time.

ANYWHO... I'd DO IT AGAIN... I enjoyed the ANTI-IDIOTS too, just waved at them gave them the PEACE Sign and blew kisses at them.

So that's my little contribution... Haven't downloaded pictures, but am NOT SURE how well any of them turned out. New camera and all. We'll see though. I did have my video too and need to check that out,... can't wait to hear the NOISE!!

so many people's flights got cancelled. I think every single person there makes a difference even if they report the number wrong every time. (the damn 'liberal' media..)
What if each of the people there couldn't make it or didn't even wanna try? Those pro-war people better at least appreciate our freedom.

30. Yeah, At First I Was Unhappy About Arriving So Early And Having To
trounce around in all that super cold weather, but we had no delays and got in on time. I did see that later that night how many flights were canceled or delayed. I did try to get a later flight in the beginning, but I guess "things happen for a reason." I was very upset about the arrests, and how the police acted toward many of "our" marchers! They seemed to appreciate those "flying eagle" types to some extent, and the coverage did STINK, as usual! I only saw a little of it that night on the news, and it was at the Rally site and not the March itself. So it made it look so much smaller because I know many many of us only stayed to listen for a short while because it was so so COLD!

Despite the shock & awe of the weather, we laughed and laughed about our experience. Getting in early, not being able to check in, freezing our butts off by taking the wrong bus... waiting at a very cold and uncovered bus stop... all in all something we will NEVER forget!

Still haven't downloaded any pictures or checked my video. Comcast went out and I needed to have them come out today and just got back online.

Check you on the boards! And thanks for the pictures!

When we finally got into our hotel - after driving through that horrible weather - they told us that we couldn't get the room we requested because they had closed the airport. I immediately thought of you and hoped you had made it safe and sound.

Too bad we couldn't hook up - our girls were great troopers.

33. Thanks... My Granddaughter & I Will NEVER Forget This Trip!
So many things happened, up & down, but we enjoyed it ALL when it came to and end.

She really impressed me and was just "good as gold" even though we felt like we were surely going to freeze! I know how much strength it took just to walk with that wind blowing so hard, but she marched right along with everyone else! When we got back, she still wanted to spend the night at my house, but I knew she was all done in and told her it would be best to get in her own bed and she could come back this week-end.

She called me today to let me know that she just couldn't stop talking about it to her friends! I'm really glad I brought her along.
