An assembly was held earlier in the day to tell students not to walk out, but about a third of the school left classes in protest anyway. The students followed each other out of the building but not off campus.
They instead gathered on the grass and listened to leaders of the rally speak. Eighth-grader Max Joiner was one of the speakers. He said, "There's no other place like Da Vinci and we don't want to be like any other school-- if you guys love Da Vinci, fight for it!"
Not all students joined the protest outside, others watched from inside the classrooms. A few parents joined the rally, but they told KOIN News 6 that the protest was completely conceived and organized by the students ...
