Paul Krugman/Molly Ivins in Austin to benefit The Texas Observer 10/18
Austin DUers this is a great event to benefit a great little publication. I hope you can at least make the booksigning event at Threadgill's. That's only $10, but if you can afford to go to the event afterwards, that looks really great too. Paul and Molly together, should be awesome.

1. Just heard Molly last night
She did an appearance at Brazos Books in Houston to promote her book. She was so funny! Vintage Molly!

The place was packed to the gills and some people didn't get in. Everyone had a great time.

One bit -- she repeated referred to Ashcroft as

John lost-to-a-dead-guy Ashcroft

and talked about how desperate the administration must be, and how not in touch with reality, to send John lost-to-a-dead-guy Ashcroft on a charm tour to promote the Patriot Act.

2. Molly is a wonderful Texan
There are some things we can be proud of in Texas and Molly is one of them. I got my "Bushwacked" book signed by her last Monday here in Austin too. She has this wonderful story about the Klan coming to the Capitol about 10 or 12 years ago. I remember the event too. Anyway as she says it's quite the dilemma for freedom of speech believers like us liberals. While we disagree strongly with the Klan's message, we can't abide by anyone cutting off their right to speak. Anyway a plan was formulated and the solution was to greet the Klan with a Texas size mooning. Somewhere I have video of that event. I didn't participate in the mooning, but it was quite funny. The Klan hasn't been back since.

4. thanks
for posting this information, sonias! I knew you'd have it.

Did we have to rsvp to the Threadgill's part of the program, or just show up?
