The Georgia Board of Pardons and Parole issued a 90-day stay of execution on Troy Davis Monday July, 16, the day before he was scheduled to die by lethal injection.
However, the Board could lift this stay at any time! This raises the possibility that the stay could have been issued because there was so much media attention on the case, even with the intention of lifting it when the pressure was off. They may or may not hear the new evidence the defense has been trying to present.
So it's up to people who believe in justice
to keep the pressure on!
We must stop the execution of this man
who is very likely innocent! If you don't know about this case yet, please take a few moments to find out.
Basic facts of the case:
August 28, 1991, Troy Anthony Davis was convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of Officer Mark McPhail.
Davis was also convicted for the non-lethal shooting of Michael Cooper and assault of
Larry Young. In the years after the trial, both victims have denied that Davis was the
perpetrator in their attacks.
Davis’s conviction was not based on any physical evidence.
The murder weapon was never found.
All of the prosecution’s non-police witnesses, but two, have recanted or contradicted their testimony as late as 2003, well after his initial appeals were rejected.
Many witnesses claimed they were coerced by the police to implicate Davis and did not witness Davis shoot McPhail.
The remaining two witnesses against Davis include a man who has been implicated as the murderer of McPhail by nine people in signed affidavits. The other witness said he could only recall the color of the shooter’s clothes.Your letters are needed immediately!Send a letter to Georgia Moratorium and it will be delivered to the Board on your behalf with thousands of other letters.
