1. DC...same day...October 25th...

meet at 11 AM at the Washington Monument in DC....

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED !!!!

Please help...this effort is ENTIRELY run by volunteers, and YOU can make a difference...the March is growing bigger everyday (this is going to be one of the BIG marches in America !!!)...if everyone helps just a little bit, the burden will be shared and this March will be a HUGE success...

if you are in DC....there is a logistical meeting this Thursday night at 7 PM (October 16th) at the ANSWER DC Headquarters, 1247 E ST SE (Metro Blue Line - Eastern Market Station - call 202-544-3389 for directions)....PLEASE HELP !!! meet great people, make a difference...feel good about DC...

if you are in NY and can help anytime, please call: 212-633-6646
if you are in DC and can help anytime, please call: 202-544-3389

--------------------------
some examples of how you can help, not all inclusive by any means, but WE NEED YOU....

it's not hard to help, there are many easy tasks that need to be done
for example, before Oct 25th, volunteers are needed to answer phones, emails, inquiries, send out letters, pick up materials, run errands around town, deliveries, plaster signs all over town, make signs, copy paper, organize the increasingly hectic office and volunteers, set up computers, stick pins in maps to show where busses are arriving from, mail stuff, stamp stuff, mark routes on DC maps...simple, but we need your help....please join us....if angels were watching us, someone would donate some food over to 1247 E. St. SE any time from now to October 25...there is just lots and lots of hardworking and hungry volunteers there often til late at night with no time to stop...send bagels, pizza, donuts...

on the night before...help set up stages, sound stuff, signs, and guard areas during the night...set up tables for sponsors and Veterans groups,etc....

on October 25th...greet buses (this is a great job, the welcoming committee...give each bus coordinator a map of the March route and and point out the Washington Monument and say HI !!! Welcome to OUR Nation's Capital - people love to see you !!!)...help coordinate media, sound, first aid, disabled vehicles, serve as a march coordiator along the route (armband and cell phone) to monitor progress and watch cops....lots of help needed on Oct 25th....

there is always an unmet need for money....this is a totally volunteer effort with minimal funds available for many expenses, like materials for first aid signs and armbands, permit fees, web page hosting, banners, office supplies, cell phone time, phone lines....we are working out of a very old house, sharing space with an activist group from nicaragua who are very good spirited about this...any donated money will be put to really good use...so you can make a difference even from far away...BRING OUR TROOPS HOME NOW!!!

MARCH AND RALLY TO END THE OCCUPATION OF IRAQ, BRING THE TROOPS HOME NOW!

Saturday, Oct. 25, 11 AM meet at Civic Center, San Francisco
Noon March to Jefferson Square Park (Turk and Laguna Streets) for 1 PM rally

On Oct. 25, tens of thousands of people will gather in San Francisco and Washington, DC to express the growing opposition to the Bush administration’s policies and its illegal occupation of Iraq. If you\'re looking for a way to express your anger about the lies we’ve been told, the lives that are being lost unnecessarily, and the billions being spent for an unjust occupation while our cities suffer, join us on the streets of San Francisco on Oct. 25!

Bush has the gall to tell us things are getting better in Iraq, but the news from Iraq only gets worse. More than 7200 Iraqi civilians and 330 U.S. soldiers have been killed to date. Millions of Iraqis have been deprived of affordable, reliable access to electricity, clean water, gas, and medical care. The U.S. is ramming through plans to sell off virtually all of Iraq’s industries to transnational corporations.

Bush is demanding billions for an illegal military occupation, while the government resists paying for vital domestic social and economic programs and the damage done to Iraq by 12 years of war, sanctions, and occupation. In San Francisco we will demand: Money for jobs, education & healthcare, not war and occupation.

As the October 25-26 weekend is also the second anniversary of the passage of the so-called Patriot Act, authorizing political arrests, indefinite detentions, domestic spying, and religious and racial profiling, the demonstration will also be a call to Fight Back Against the Patriot Act.

SPONSORS
The sponsors of the Oct. 25 march and rally include International ANSWER (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism), Bay Area United Against War, Not In Our Name, United for Peace and Justice, and the Vanguard Public Foundation.

SPEAKERS AND PERFORMERS
Speakers and performers will include former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney; Ron Kovic, Vietnam War veteran and author of Born on the Fourth of July; Fernando Suarez Del Solar, father of a Marine who was killed in Iraq; and “Barrio rock” band Los Mocosos, among others.

Yeah, the march is starting at the CC this time...not the Embarcadero (the first couple of marches started down there) You remeber the corner where you left Matt and I last time? The opposite corner from that (1 block north on Larkin) is the northeast corner of the CC square. Well, the place I'm talking about is just 1 block north of that. Right beyond the parking lot.

As is always, whenever two or more DUers spend time together, it was a splendid happening. The sky was blue, the company good, the walk sans hills, the signage funny, the shade refreshing -- all in all, a VERY good day.

Hello to new friends The Tikis, Roz, TA, and Lee & Lee from PalChat, a big "We missed you!" to old friends Noiret and WillyT, and a "Sorry we lost you!" to JackRabbit and Grandmabear!

Some highlights of the day included DU's own Symbolman making his march appearance as lil' Dick Cheney and passing out the green to the masses, seeing the Code Pink gals' giant, pink slip looming overhead on the march route, walking behind a tiny, elderly couple who had to be in their 70s marching hand in hand, seeing another elderly man, this one naked as a jaybird and possessing the most odd-looking scotum I have ever witnessed (did anyone get a picture??), and finally finding a place to sit for awhile that had air conditioning (thanks again guys!).

I consider myself to be very lucky to spend time with such good people!

Hell

60. No problem
We had to stop and rest. We looked for you folks when we got to Jefferson Park, but didn't see you.

We old folks are resting our sore muscles today.

61. Cally and I waited for GrandmaBear and JackRabbit for a little bit
I hope you guys made it back home okay .
There is a SF picture thread in GD.

Sorry to of missed WillyT and Noiretblu :-(

Hightlight of the day for me was : My Mom and Dad being there .
You see my folks split when I was 4 and that was the last time
we protested together back in the 70s ....Activism is such
a huge part of who I am , and the strength of both my parents
convictions is why I am who I am . Being together in protest
yesterday was like coming full circle . Maybe it's because I'm
34 and I hear that's when we women finally know ourselves .
I know it's pretty cheesy , but that was my hightlight .

The scrotum on the naked man was indeed unlike any
I've seen before . but I must give those three
a hand for getting naked for peace . I must admit how
incredibly natural it was , they just kind of blended in
after awhile .

I always enjoy our time together , DUers are so wonderful.

I got to shake Symbolman's hand and quickly exchange
names . That was pretty cool B-)

My bloody shirt got lots of pictures as well as when
I shouted "bush kills Americans with his lies"
"2 liters of water a day 1 meal a day bring our
troops home"

I got a new bumber sticker "Honor Vets Wage Peace"
and a new button "Stop Mad Cowboy disease"

My favorite T-Shirt arcane1 saw and told me about was
a Native American sitting on a horse with the caption
"my heroes always fight cowboys" I have a friend who
I have to get that shirt for .

67. The Scrotum Man...
Being UTTERLY fascinated with what I witnessed, I did some research online this morning and discovered he was suffereing from what was most likely a disease called Genital Lymphoedema:

Clinical Features

Swelling - Various parts of the genital anatomy can become swollen. In males, both the penis and scrotum, or each, can swell independently. Sometimes, the scrotum becomes so swollen, that the patient has difficulty in walking. As the swelling increases, it can involve the area above the base of the penis (called the pubic area), thus causing the penis to retract into the scrotum. Penetration may be impossible and urination may be difficult when the penis is almost hidden inside a grossly swollen scrotum.

All I can say is... OWWWW!

Yes, it was a great day (if a little too HOT)

We got thousands of people together to echo in one voice that we did NOT like what our government was doing abroad. I thought it was a poitive message from a positive group of people.

Sorry we didn't see everyone (what happened to ya, Willy??) and I was glad to meet even MORE fellow DUers.

75. Lies brought us into Iraq; a Prosecutor will set the record straight
Monday, November 3rd at 4:00 PM on 5th and Madison at the Federal Courthouse in Seattle, WA there will be a RALLY to Call for a Special Prosecutor to investigate the outing by the Bush Administation of CIA agent Valerie Plame.
Ms. Plame, the wife of Ambassador Joseph Wilson, was exposed as an agent of the CIA in a retaliatory move by members of the Bush Administration. Ambassador Wilson had publicly criticized the Bush Administration for using evidence it knew to be false in order to promote the call to war with Iraq. Wilson had gone to Niger to investigate for the CIA and knew that the evidence of Saddam Hussien having purchased "yellowcake uranium" from Niger was untrue. Members of the Administration revealed Mr. Wilson's wife's name in an act of revenge and as a warning to others who might disagree with the Administration. This action was malfeasance, an abuse of power, and a clear violation of the laws protecting undercover CIA operatives from exposure to public attention and possible harm. Ms. Plame was working under cover tracking the people who are most likely to sell terrorists weapons of mass destruction. The Administration's actions in revealing Ms. Plame's name are made worse because it also has damaged our National Security while in a time of great danger. Ms. Plame has done more for our National Security, over the course of the last few years, than any "sneak and peek" provision of the Patriot Act will ever do.

Attorney General John Ashcroft is too closely involved in the Bush Administration to oversee the investigation of the illegal disclosure without a conflict of interest in protecting the Administration and his own position within the administration. The Veil in front of the Statue of Lady Justice in the RFK Justice Building is an apt analogy for the current situation. Justice is hidden from the American People by John Ashcroft and the Bush Administration.

Several Congressional Committees, such as the Senate Intelligence Committee, the House and Senate Judiciary Committees, and especially the Senate Committee on Governement Affairs, all can open inquires, but none of these Republican Chaired Committees has looked into the Plame case.

This is not a partisan issue. Whether liberal or conservative, we are all Americans, and we are all in much more in danger than we were before people in the Bush Administration exposed Valerie Plame as a CIA operative. Our anti-terrorist operations overseas have been compromised and overseas recruiting has become far more difficult. The parties responsible for this transgression must be brought to Justice! We the People do not believe a complete and thorough investigation can be completed so long as it is under the control of someone in the Administration. We believe a Special Prosecutor is needed to investigate the "Valerie Plame Affair" so that the American people can finally hear the Truth about what the Administration is doing behind closed doors.

Bush, Cheney, Rove, Ashcroft, and Rupert Murdoch seem think the American people are stupid and can be made to misunderstand or to forget events. We do understand. We will not forget, Mr. Bush. They seem to think they can hijack the honestly conservative values of the Republican Party and use them to their own ends. They can not. The American People are good people. The Bush Administration thinks that it can intimidate the loyal opposition of the Democratic Party into silence and submission. They can not. Americans are a brave and strong people. Liberal or conservative, we are all Americans. The American people may disagree upon many things but one thing we all agree upon is, Justice must be served!

With this in mind we are gathering The People together in front of the Federal Buildinig to show that we want Justice done and that we want what's best for National Security. So long as the Administration leakers are not brought to Justice, it could happen again, and we are all in more extreme peril than we should have to endure.

This will be a Peaceful Demonstration. We are only here to call for a Special Prosecutor and Congressional Investigations into the Plame Affair. We will be leaving any other political aspirations behind this November 3rd so as to concentrate upon the non partisan issue of applying Justice in the Bush Administration regarding an assault upon our National Security. We will comply with the Laws and exercise our Rights of "free assembly" as Guaranteed by the Constitution of These United States of America.

This event is being organized by THREADBARE RAG.

77. So... What ??? You Guys All Got 86'd From Harrington's, LOL ???
Sorry I missed y'all for the march.

Bit of a late start, massive traffic jams on journey to the Bay (had to take the river road), no chance of finding y'all at Jefferson Square, almost got myself a job by hangin' out at Harrington's.

Got to hear McKinney and Glover though, so I had a good time.

Next time we exchange cell phone numbers, no???

79. Our post Tommy's activities...
were sopatillas at Chevy's (where they had AIR CONDITIONING!), then we retired back to Jefferson Park and the playground there, where we covorted in frightening ways (caught on tape!).

I called it an evening after having a near-death experience in a playground equipment mishap while a few other intrepid DUers journeyed on into the night.

I think maybe we should have some set after event meeting places for those of us lost, confused, or just hungover. :)

80. Well... While I Was Searching Hither And Yon For You Guys...
Carrie decided to march on Nordstroms. Seems they sold her some shoddy shoes, and she had to do battle with the purveyors of pumps, or some such stuff.

Then we went to North Beach Pizza, gorged, went home and pooped out.

Man it was hot for S.F.

83. Hahahaha! We found the BEST place afterwards!
I mean really it was absolutely perfect :) and not too far from Tommy's or Chevy's.

The playground was a blast and I'm really not so sure we need to publish those pictures anywhere ;) though I'm dying to see them and all the other photos from that day, evening, night :)

After we left you we walked around a little, chatted with an interesting trio of Russians and went into a place they recommended (not that we weren't half in anyway!).

I must say, Arcane was quite the hit with one of the "ladies of the night"- she couldn't keep her fingers out of his hair. It was actually heart-breaking to talk to her because she was desperate for the audience but you know... nice DUers... we let her talk for about half an hour not that ANY of us could understand a thing she was trying to say. Well, Arcane understand one thing because I swear he gracefully jumped back about 3 feet when she finally started feeling him up :) I was afraid she'd go after Terwilliger next but he had the presence of mind to scoot away too...

Another great DU day! I was thrilled to see everyone again even though I missed Noiretblu :hi: and hopes she can make the next one.

WillyT- you're just on my bad list now. I know why you were really late- traffic my ass! That's the same tired excuse you tried when you were late for my party... oh yeah... you wild boy you ;)

Well you missed a great time and you missed meeting the Tikkis! and TA!

Thanks all you beautiful DU radicals for another perfect day :)

Thanks ever to those who got lost ;)

86. Interview request for D.C. protestors regarding 'Protest Warrior'
Greetings,

I'm doing a story for The Washington Times on the 'Protest Warriors.' Anyone who attended the D.C. rally Oct. 25 who would like to speak with me about them, please do so. Good impressions, poor impressions, whatever.

I'm out of the office right now, but if you're interested please send an e-mail to cjolma@washingtontimes.com. I'm working on a short deadline, so the sooner the better.

Thanks!
Chris
