Please help with McCain event
When Obama came here 2 weeks ago, the tickets were gone in 90 minutes. But on the day of his speech, there were a bunch of empty seats in the auditorium where he spoke. Turns out the local right wingers had grabbed as many tickets as they could. And many area Obama supporters, like me, were not able to attend the event.
:grr:

And on the day of the event, our local FOX affiliate had fun with pictures of empty seats at Obama's speech.

So, DU activists, here is an easy action for you. McCain will be here Thursday. The tickets are reserved online via this link: http://www.johnmccain.com/ste/eventrsvp.aspx?guid=5ea31db4-d318-473c-8ca0-0e1d367dcac1

The max I was able to reserve was 20. If enough of us reserve that many, we can make sure McCain's event is even less well attended than Obama's.

Yes they will probably add you to their email list. You can either get a little comic relief, delete the emails or spam them out.

Thank you for your participation in this very worthy cause! :)

4. Yes I think so too
Not my idea though. Activists from another city where they did this forwarded the info to me. They heard about the empty seats at our Obama event and did some Googling till they found out what our local right wingers had done. Same thing had happened in their city.

5. The Obama campaign may need to distribute tickets from the offices.

6. They did
And the tickets were gone in 90 minutes. They even limited them to 2 per person.

It was an orchestrated and well organized effort by our local right wingers to derail the Obama event. And from what I am hearing they are doing this all over the country.

When Michelle Obama was here last week, they sent that info out via email through the Dem party. So those tickets were reserved by Democrats. It sold out and there were no empty seats.

7. Do they require you to respond to the confirmation email address?
Also, I suggest NOT clicking on the link, but instead copy/pasting it so it doesn't show as a link referral from DU.

Edited on Mon Jul-14-08 03:48 PM by proud2Blib
No I have not received a confirmation email yet. I will post here when I do.

I have heard from several others who have requested tickets. No problems so far. :)

on edit, one person from out of town left a comment with her request that she was coming here to see family. Good idea!

10. This nasty little trick is wrong
no matter who is doing it. Are we afraid of what John McCain is going to say? It sure sounds like it....

11. So you are willing to let them play dirty tricks and steal yet another election?
There is nothing wrong with this. It's not illegal or even immoral.

13. Why wouldn't it be?
I plan on sharing my extra tickets with friends.

When Michelle Obama was here last week, a friend of mine had 2 tickets but didn't go. She couldn't get off work. Was that dishonest?

15. This is a matter of intent - in other words, ethics.

18. If you intend to use the tickets, and intend for those you gift to use them
as well, that's one thing. If you intend that the venue be full of empty seats, then I would say that you have not requested, obtained and utilized the tickets in good faith with the one from whom you obtained them (whose purpose in giving the tickets is to fill the seats).

14. So we stoop to their level and yet claim the high ground?
Doesn't sound very ethical to me.

16. Then don't participate in this action
I have to wonder why you are even reading the activist forum.

But yeah, ethics wins elections. Like in 2000 and again in 2004. Oh, wait . . .

17. Can't agree
So everyone acts unethically? That doesn't do a whole lot for our country, nor does it help the reputation of the country. There are still plenty of people out there who are looking for honest politicians (and an honest political party). There is no such thing if we engage in tactics like this. We cannot claim the moral high ground. I guess you are saying that Democrats have no more ethics than Republicans.

I read this forum because there are ways to help the party without acting unethically or illegally (not saying this is illegal).

21. then when
we are accused of playing dirty, we have to say yes, we are? We are as underhanded as the Republicans? Is that really what you want to say - there is no difference between us and the Republicans? If so, I guess Democrats don't stand for what they say - and that is more damaging than anything else out there.

23. I'd rather play fair and lose
than win by cheating...the impression I am getting here is that the people here would rather cheat. Sorry you had such a poor upbringing.
