The Volunteer List - a place for us to carry the torch forward...
Since we are all so moved by the service and dedication of the Kennedy family, and want to DO something to honor the legacy of a true Liberal…
Here is a list of volunteer search engines to get us started. Let’s answer the call that our President issued at the beginning of the summer…for EVERYONE to volunteer in some way, shape or form. That each of us can make a huge difference by making a small effort in our own communities.
We got sidetracked by the RW hate machine for a while, let’s choose to take the higher path & “answer to our better angels” by REALLY creating change in lives and communities – one at a time.

I am looking for a job, as many of you are…is it too much to give 6 months of your skills? If we each signed up for these programs, the needs of many could be met, we would be able to stay on top of our game and add something cool to the resume, and many times there is a stipend or other assistance with childcare costs, living allowance, etc...…so perhaps it could even help you if you are on unemployment or assistance…

Good luck! Keep the Dream Alive!

I'm unfamiliar with the other organizations but I'll check them out.

5. I think it is a great idea
giving it a rec, and hoping all who are in a position to do so, will. I am a school teacher and principal. I do what I can to make the world a better place every day.

6. I'd love to hear more of others' experiences...
soup kitchens...thrift stores... shelters... rec center programs...etc...

I was a candy striper for 4 years in HS and really learned alot! not just about the patients but that the nurses needed emotional support too...

Also did soime work at the Boys & Girls Club - got to see how many children are lost because either both parents work so much or because they only have one parent trying to hold it together... (ya, like me)

I looked through the above sites and found 3 opportunities to serve in my area thatr may fit my skills. and since I may not have a job lined up anytime soon, the work could get my foot in the door or at least give me more tools that I can use..AND I get to help others in the meantime! I look forward to sending my resume and letters tomorrow...

Never know until we try, right?

7. Excellent suggestion. Also fighting for Single Payer health care reform will honor Senator Kennedy.
