CU has be spearheading the grassroots support for consumer protections in credit card regulations. It got its initial bill containing some good provisions passed by both houses of Congress a while back. The House then passed the bill CU supported moving up the effective date of the changes from Feb 2010, to Dec 1, 2009, w/ the idea of covering holiday purchases. Sen. Udall introduced a companion bill, S.1833 - Expedited CARD Reform for Consumers Act of 2009, into the Senate, but it has been languishing in committee.

CU has created a tollfree #, 1-800-944-6762, to call your Senators to support it. They suggest stating a brief summary of your own credit card horror stories, if you've got 'em, in addition to asking for support.
