Listen to reason. As the top world economist Paul Krugman said, "This is a reasonable, responsible plan. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise." http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/12/opinion/12krugman.html

2. Thanks for this -- Wow. There are a lot of names missing (like
my Rep, for example!) I was making the mistake of thinking if they were for PO (like my rep is), they'd be for the HCR bill. Oops. Thanks for snapping me out of it! :hi:

10. i am unconvinced that the health insurance industry bailout act will cover those people
or offer them any real coverage if they are able to afford it at all.

there is no reason not to re-allocate funds and cover people through real programs like medicare or medicaid rather than some high deductible POS private plan that won't provide much real coverage.

6. Undecided:
Loretta Sanchez (Calif.) (Y) Was a late yes in November.

In a conversation w/ Loretta yesterday, she was very upset w/ the Senate's contraception language. Seems women has to pay for a separate policy to cover birth control, as well as termination. She was leaning 'no' because of it. In a quandary about how to explain it though.

7. This was sent to me by one of my listeners
I just copied you on a reply I wrote to a newsletter from PeaceTeam.net They are promoting the "Kill the Bill" meme.

This is what I was trying to call you about yesterday when you were talking with Bob. It's probably better that I didn't get through then because I didn't really have my thoughts together very well at the time. I think I do a little better with writing.

Some of our friends in NovaExile have bought into the "Kill the Bill" idea, and I have to admit, I did too at first. It's ironic that I won Cracking the Code about this topic from Thom Hartmann because I think some of us are falling for surreptitious tactics. I always say there are two types of Conservatives: Con Men and those conned by them. Do we have the same problem on the Left?

It took my brilliant sister, Monica, to point out my mistake on this issue. Especially about the Health Care Clinics which I knew nothing about. Why are no Progressive Talkers mentioning these Clinics? Especially the point that the clinics will help 45,000,000 vs. 3,000,000 for the Public Option.

Anyway I hope you read what I wrote. Feel free to share any of it on the air. After reading it again, I see some of my sister's anger about this has come through in my reply. I don't blame her. She is 59 years old, has no income to speak of because she is full time caregiver for our elderly father, and she has no health insurance. Oh, she does get "tax breaks" for being a caregiver. Let's see, how much can you get from a tax break on no income? Oh that's right: ZERO!

I've copied the letter again below.

Peace,

Dear "The Pen,"

You are so WRONG on the Health Care debate I'm wondering if you are really working for the other side and you are just another part of the massive PSY OPS we are enduring.

How did that "Public Option or Bust" meme "thought virus" infect the Left? Getting us to work against our own interests like "They" can get the Right doing. It's such black-and-white thinking, so right-wing like. I always have my radar up about this stuff. Right wing propagandists have infiltrated the Left posing as our allies. Be aware and think things through PLEASE!

People will DIE if the bill does not pass and the Dems will go down for failing once again. I hope you notice how eagerly the Rethuglicans are hoping this bill fails. That says a lot.

Here are some facts about a VERY GOOD part of this bill that Bernie Sanders and Ted Kennedy were able to get in the bill. The Community Health Care Clinics are in the bill.

From vets74 diary at Daily Kos Dec 22, 2009,
45,000,000 Get Community Health Care (Single-Payer Vermont style Health Care)
45,000,000 helped vs. 3,000,000 for Public Option.
These clinics will serve EVERYONE with or without insurance or money.
FREE CARE FOR THE POOR!
That will SAVE LIVES!

Some facts about the Clinics:

-- 14,000 nationwide Community Health Clinics

-- Expand CHC capabilities to match VHA technology

-- 45,000,000 people served

-- $$$$$ to attract 20,000 primary care physicians, nurses, etc.

-- Drugs at VHA prices (thwarts Medicare Part D!)

-- Dental care and Mental Health care

-- Cancer screening

-- Patient billing scaled to income

-- No profit motive.

-- 40% saving for chronic care, 1/5th the cost for ER.

How thoughtless and mean spirited some on the Left can be to try to deny us this!

Do you remember during the campaign how Hillary was for mandates and Obama wasn't? Thom Hartmann took Hillary's side on that because it will spread the risk and everyone will pay less. AND guess which European country uses mandates, and is touted to be the best health care system in the world: FRANCE!

Yes, I am mad at the sociopathic behavior of the Health Insurance Companies too and I wish they could pay for all the pain and suffering they have caused. But I'm not going to allow my lust for revenge cloud my thinking. This bill makes most of their egregious practices illegal, by the way.

WE NEED HELP NOW and this bill will give us some help. Do nothing and 45,000 a year will continue to DIE!

You actually think if we "kill the bill" we could get a real Single Payer system any time soon? GET REAL! (Maybe here in California, and I will continue to work for that. But I do care about my friends in other states.)

In this case, that old cliché "the perfect is the enemy of the good" truly applies.

8. Good job. I agree, the choice is clear
This will be a big first step to full fledged national health insurance in the USA. If it goes down, it'll be another 15 years til the next time. The choice is clear.

I think it is as Nobel economist Krugman said (again), "This is a reasonable, responsible plan. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise."
