Position of the Communist Party of Israel

No To Fascist Hooliganism! No To Racism!

We condemn with rage the attempt on the life of MK Issam
Mahoul, General Secretary of the CPI, which took place on
the 24th. of October next to his house in Haifa, that only
by a miracle left his wife unharmed.

We place the responsibility for this wretched murder
attempt on the radical right, which draws its inspiration
from the war crimes committed daily in the occupied
territories. Again we state our position that the 37 year
long occupation not only is destroying the Palestinian
people, but also the Israeli society and is undermining the
foundations of democracy. The police display a tolerance
for the growing right wing hooliganism and racism of the
(illegal) settlers.

The right wing government, in power since the assassination
of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin eight years ago, tramples
the rights of the workers, exacerbates the dispossession of
the Arab population from their land, and passes
legislation tainted with racism, chipping away at the
democratic freedoms. Thus the way is paved for further
political assassinations.

As the failures of the official policies become more and
more clear, so the risk from the radical right increases,
including assassinations. The way to prevent further
assassination attempts is to step up the struggle against
the crimes of occupation, for the withdrawal of the Israeli
army from all the territories occupied in June 1967, and
for a just peace between Israel and the Palestinian
state-to-be.

The Communist Party of Israel calls on all supporters of
peace and democracy, Jews and Arabs:

Right Wing Hooliganism Shall Not Frighten Us!

Let us act together, with determination, against the
occupation and for a just peace, against racism and the
threat of fascism!
