BBV - Let's Support Rep Holt - Write Letters to Houes Administration Cmte.
Rep. Holt was on Democracy Now this AM talking about his concern re: Diebold. He said that while some house dems are concerned, there is total silence from the GOP. (shocking isn't it?)
Anyway, I thought we could help him out. When I phoned his office they suggested we write to members of the Committee on House Administration and tell them to support his: VOTER CONFIDENCE AND INCREASED ACCESSIBLITY ACT OF 2003 (HR2239)

Republican Members
Rep. Robert W. Ney, (R-OH) Chairman
Rep. Vernon J. Ehlers, (R-MI)
Rep. John L. Mica (R-FL)
Rep. John Linder (R-GA)
Rep. John T. Doolittle (R-CA)
Rep. Thomas M. Reynolds (R-NY)

Democratic Members
Rep. John B. Larson (D-CT) Ranking Member
Rep. Juanita Millender-McDonald (D-CA)
Rep. Robert Brady (D-PA)

THE VOTER CONFIDENCE AND INCREASED ACCESSIBLITY ACT OF 2003

On May 22, Rep. Rush Holt responded to the growing chorus of concern from election reform specialists and computer security experts about the integrity of future elections by introducing reform legislation, The Voter Confidence and Increased Accessibility Act of 2003 (H.R. 2239). The measure would require all voting machines to produce an actual paper record by 2004 that voters can view to check the accuracy of their votes and that election officials can use to verify votes in the event of a computer malfunction, hacking, or other irregularity. Experts often refer to this paper record as a “voter-verified paper trail.”

“We cannot afford nor can we permit another major assault on the integrity of the American electoral process,” said Rep. Rush Holt. “Imagine it’s Election Day 2004. You enter your local polling place and go to cast your vote on a brand new “touch screen” voting machine. The screen says your vote has been counted. As you exit the voting booth, however, you begin to wonder. How do I know if the machine actually recorded my vote? The fact is, you don’t.”

1. Committee on House Administration?
Well, if Holt's office thinks that's where we should focus, then so be it.

2. Ehlers is my Congressman, in fact.

Here's what I wrote to him:

As a member of the House Administration Committee, I ask that you support the VOTER CONFIDENCE AND INCREASED ACCESSIBLITY ACT OF 2003 (HR 2239), sponsored by Rush Holt.

Holt explains it well. He recently said, "We cannot afford nor can we permit another major assault on the integrity of the American electoral process. Imagine it’s Election Day 2004. You enter your local polling place and go to cast your vote on a brand new 'touch screen' voting machine. The screen says your vote has been counted. As you exit the voting booth, however, you begin to wonder. How do I know if the machine actually recorded my vote? The fact is, you don’t."

Our democracy - for which millions have fought and many have died - is at stake. Let's not tell our veterans they fought for nothing - they fought for our freedoms, our democracy, and for a government "of the people, by the people, for the people." Many of those veterans lost comrades on the battlefield. Did they die for nothing, or did they die for our freedoms? Mr. Ehlers, you have the opportunity to decide. Don't waste it.
