About 3 months ago, I posted an article on a demonstration in Casper, WY. In the comments to that, amen1234 encouraged me to come to DC on 3/20. (At the time, the protest was still planned for DC.) I responded that I had planned to do just that but that I had just learned that the Wyoming Democratic County Caucuses would be held that day and so I was wavering on whether to stay here or go... Amen1234 then made a great offer: if our peace group, Stand Up for Peace, would send her a banner, she would gather together a group and carry our banner in the 3.20 protests. Our group thought that was a great idea so, a few weeks ago, we got together and made a huge banner and sent it off to Amen1234 in DC. By then, of course, the rally had shifted to NYC and she had made plans to attend. When the banner arrived, she gathered friends to carry it ("Team Wyoming") and got the poles together to carry it high and proud.
Today, Amen1234 sent the following photo of our banner in the NYC march:
You can see the "Stand Up ... Pea ... ng" behind the smaller individual signs held aloft.
And, this morning, on NPR they said that people came to NYC to protest from "as far away as Alaska and Wyoming." Although one of our members was in NYC, I rather suspect they got this information from our banner.
Meanwhile, back in Wyoming, on Friday, we read the names of the dead servicepeople in front of the post office and yesterday attended the county caucus for Kucinich. But, mostly, I wanted to post this to publicly thank Amen1234 and also to show what a powerful tool DU can be for making connections in our efforts at activism.
Thanks again, Amen1234!!!!! :bounce:
