Poll of Democratic Insiders: "Dean, Dean, Dean, Dean..."
OK, time for another wacky poll: the National Journal Democratic insider poll.

Here's how it works. Pick 50 Democratic "insiders" and ask them a simple question: who is going to win the Democratic nomination? Tally the results, just like they do in those sportswriter polls for college basketball and football. Here they are for December 12, 2003... to the third decimal place:

Dean: 46 first place votes (92.000%)
Clark: 2 (4.000%)
Edwards: 2 (4.000%)
Rest of Field: 0 (0.000%)

Margin of error is... I have no clue.

DailyKos.com has some interesting analysis here, including more data on who these insiders are. Let's just say I admire and respect their candid opinions.

Next up? An anonymous poll of all the candidates spouses, kids, and surviving parents. Can't wait.

3. You Know, Every Single One of the Polls This Week...
...Has shown my guy (Dean) leading.

But now it's Friday, and I'm officially sick of polls. Here's hoping I can recover before the next batch comes out. :hangover:

Should they have identified the people who were polled?
Were the "insiders" promised anonymity? That's nasty to point out that someone's own campaign manager thought someone else would win.

(Don't trash me, I'm a Deanie. Dean didn't do this poll.)

4. Well, In Their Defense...
It's a "first place" vote, so there's some (a little) wiggle room if you're a particular candidate's campaign manager or endorser.

6. As much as I like Dean
and to a lesser extent the rest of the pack, we need to get to a few of the primaries and get some voting under our belts. In the meantime, let's hope they bash Bush and not each other.
