TN: Poll shows Bush carrying state in next year’s election

CHATTANOOGA (AP) — A new statewide poll finds that with less than a year to go before the 2004 election, President Bush would easily take Tennessee over a generic Democratic opponent.

The survey of 400 likely Tennessee voters found that Bush would carry Tennessee and its 11 electoral votes by a margin of 52 percent to 37 percent. Eleven percent of respondents were undecided.

None were asked which of the nine Democratic candidates they would prefer in a race against Bush.

1. I don't think this is good news for Dumbo--52% is not all that great

in a very conservative state. TN could be competitive next year.

2. Do we need the south ?

I'm happy to hear that any state is competitive in the south, but I gotta ask ya, how badly do we need the south ? Gore lost the entire south and a pretty good argument can be made that he won the election. If we just get every state we got in 2000 + Ohio, we win without the south. But hell if we can put up a fight in TN, i'm for it.

Furthermore, we do need the South for the Senate.

and do as well as possible in the south and in the popular vote so it is good news that Bush is only barely over 50% in Tennessee.

10. Clark got an unexpected reception here in Knoxville

Clark, his staff, and those who were there were all shocked at the number of people who showed up at the General's rally in Knoxville. They were actually running out the doors. They were lots of veterans there as well. You could see the shock on Clark's face when he walked into the room. I think his staff must have been preparing him for a so-so crowd (due to Knoxville being heavily Puke), you could tell his was quite shocked to see the number of people that showed up.

I think Clark is going to do really well here in the Primary. He could also make it real interesting here in TN if he gets the Nom.
