1. Another good map

This one is red vs. blue, but by county rather than by state.

4. This map speaks to quite a disconnect between urban and rural
Do to a lack of one person, one vote caused by limits on the size of the House of Representatives, rural areas (more Republicans) will be given greater representation in congress than the votes they actually get. We need to change this.

Thanks for posting Freddie

3. All the blue in Iowa is a surprise.
This is easy to see how Repugs manipulate Congressional gerrymandering.

5. Actually Iowa has competitive districts due to non-partisan redistricting
According to a great New Yorker article on the electoral grab through redistricting (don't have the link right now), Iowa had all five House races competitive last time around. That was 10% of the total of comp. House races in the nation! We draw our districts with nearly the same numbers of democrats and republicans so "GOTV" is always key--that said, some districts are oddy shaped and seem to favor Republicans a bit. In the second most Dem. area, we have one of the most liberal Republicans and he keeps winning. He voted against the war, is pro-choice, etc. A lot of Dems cross the ticket for him, though I do not.

6. I don't see any credit given to Joel Garreau
The analysis appears to parallel that of Garreau's 1981 classic The Nine Nations of North America. At least some mention of his work out of courtesy would seem appropriate even if the research is all original.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nine_Nations_of_North_America for a starting point if you haven't read or heard of that wonderful book.

8. This is very interesting
and I can't say I disagree much with the conclusions. It certainly shows where resources and time needs to be spent next year.

11. Map will take some study. Thanks

A decisive win on the popular vote and the electoral college non-trivial because of the varied sentiments accross the electorate.
One needs a candidate around whom you can create a mythic appeal.

Great map.

9. At least one part is incorrect
It states that "Sagebrush" has voted Republican in every election since 1964. Fresno, CA is included in "Sagebrush" and went for Clinton in 1992 and 1996. I stopped reading after that.
