Matt Gonzalez endorses Dennis Kucinich
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2003/12/17/MNGV03P1GH1.DTL

snip

---------------------

He's strong ... and he'd certainly be a great improvement over (President) Bush,'' said Matt Gonzalez, the San Francisco supervisor and Green Party mayoral candidate who Tuesday endorsed Kucinich.

Gonzalez said he had met Dean, but there has been "a lot of disappointment among progressives'' regarding some of Dean's positions -- particularly his opposition to same-sex marriage and to medical marijuana. By contrast, he said, Greens and Democrats appreciate that Kucinich is "unapologetic about the progressive nature of what he represents.''

----------------------

Matt is great. Too bad he came up a bit short in his plight to be mayor of San Francisco.

2. I wish he became the mayor
At least Gonzalez (I hope) will still serve on the board of supervisors and stop any harmful legislation of Newsom's. This guy has a bright future and there is so much potential. He could win the next election.

Progressives supporting true progressives.

"Gonzalez said he had met Dean, but there has been "a lot of disappointment among progressives'' regarding some of Dean's positions -- particularly his opposition to same-sex marriage and to medical marijuana. How true.. and it is not only those two issues. Dennis has a better and progressive position on NAFTA, the Pentagon Budget, Iraq, Education, Healthcare, Unions, Energy, the environment, campaign finacne reform....and so on.

Wow! When I actually list them out the difference become glaring!

GO DENNIS!

4. Firstly, congrats to Kucinich.
Secondly, if he met with Dean, does that mean Dean was supporting him in his race?

6. and this endorsement means what outside of San Francisco?
sounds more and more as if Kucinich is going to bolt the party and run as a Green in the general election

9. It helps show Dennis is the most progressive candidate
And that Howard Dean isn't good enough for Matt Gonzalez (although it appears Dean wanted his endorsement to ad to the illusion that Howard Dean is progressive).

Gonzalez knows that Kucinich has the answers to solve this nation's problems.

You obviously don't understand that the democrats need the Green support in the GE to win.

Gonzalez's endorsement of Kucinich goes a way to help show that Kucinich can unite the left.

I for one won't be voting for Howard Dean if he is the nominee come November 2. The man is a centrist and he can't unite jackshit.

12. Don't judge everyone by that
I wont support the Green if Dean gets the nod, you got my word. Hopefully Sean, Ralph won't run period. I may be one stubborn idealistic son of a bitch but I am a democrat and will support the nominee, I just want it to be Kucinich the most :D.

15. if not nader someone else
who doesn't support the death penalty, who doesn't support a 400+ billion dollar pentagon budget and who doesn't support healthcare for profit.

there are plenty of other candidates out there...thankfully the presidency isn't a 2 person race or it looks I wouldn't be voting.

Bush sucks.
Dean sucks.

I'll vote my conscience and my heart, thank you very much.

13. who will you vote for
Edited on Wed Dec-17-03 04:42 PM by hippiewannabe
if dean does get the nomination. since you already have stated you wont vote for dean, who does that leave?
and wouldnt a vote for dean be better to help put him over the top than another 4years of shrub?

i for one will vote for any of the democratic nominees rather than living the following 4 years thinking, if i had just voted for (fill in the blank) instead of a third party, shrub would have been tossed out.

on edit this question is for ErasureAcer, who said snip < I for one won't be voting for Howard Dean if he is the nominee come November 2. The man is a centrist and he can't unite jackshit.>

19. Hah
You need us a lot more than we need you, buddy. Greens hold, what, maybe 2 state legislature seats in the entire country? They've never held a congressional seat or a senate seat or a governorship, but we need you? Whatever.

23. That's an opinion many don't share
Our continual shift to the right has ended up with us holding fewer and fewer national offices over the past 30 years.

See dpbrown's analysis of the 40/40/30 model for details.

I don't know about any other Democrats, but I'm tired of our party shooting itself in the foot in a vain attempt to court people ever further and further towards the right. The numbers speak for themselves, IMO.

Congrats on the endorsement Congressman Kucinich.

27. Sorry, you're wrong. Thanks for playing.
There are a number of Greens who hold not only state legislature seats, but also mayors, city council members, and other local-level elected offices.

You can dismiss the Greens and progressives all you want. Let the DLC turn the party into the Rockefeller Republican party all you want, just like they've done over the last ten years of their "leadership".

The Democrats will continue to lose seats in the US House and Senate, lose presidential races to talking chimps, and drive voter apathy to new highs never seen before, just like they've done over the last ten years.

Sorry, but Ralph Nader was the best Democrat running in 2000, and 1996 for that matter. Unlike Gore/Clinton, he was not afraid to stand up to encroaching corporate fascism, big money and big media.

But if you somehow think that having two rightwing parties in this country is a good idea, by all means dismiss the progressives and liberals.

But don't be suprised by 2012 if your "Democratic" party is as irrelevant as the Whigs were in 1860.

20. How many times-
does Dennis Kucinich have to tell you people he has no interest in running as anything other than a Democratic candidate before you listen?

I swear the one thing that infuriates me the most is the difference between Dean's constant "mis-speaking" and "evolving" and Kucinich's complete record of honesty and total truthfulness. Show me a SINGLE DELIBERATE LIE from Kucinich, anywhere, ever. I've asked for this time and time again and NOBODY has been able to provide it yet. Until you do STOP accusing my candidate of being as conniving as Howard Dean appears to be!

Dennis was in San Fran Monday and Tuesday. Monday night was event with Alice Walker and I heard that Gonzalez endorsed Dennis at that time and then I think he appeared with him on Tues at the SF bar association luncheon event. Maybe someone in San Fran can confirm and fill in details as to Mon and Tues events. I heard the Alice Walker event was great.

21. I'm not surprised.
Dennis has a lot of support from Greens and other 3rd party members. He is also a staunch democrat, and will not be running 3rd party. Instead, many of those supporters have rejoined the democrats for the primaries. They want a chance to vote for Dennis in the general election, and are working for that goal. Dennis' campaign unites progressives.
