Help Convince Nader Not to run
The 2004 election is very important, we must, we must beat Bush. But now, just like in 2000, Ralph Nader is thinking about running. Yes, many of Democrats who voted for him then won't this time, to defeat Bush. But what is going to be another close election, every vote counts, and we need to win not just his Democrat voters but the Greens as well.

So please take just a few minutes (very short) and fill out this questionare on his Exploratory Committee urging him not to run!

Tell Mr. Nader NOT to run, http://www.naderexplore04.org/survey/survey_start.php

Why would he be telling the truth, now?

5. RUN RALPH RUN!!!
I hope Ralph runs nationally and runs hard!!
That way, the only way that the Demo can win is to address the real issues!!
Anyone want another Republicrat like Clinton who appoints a Treasury Secretary from Goldman-Sachs, signs the salvage logging bill, busts his ass to get NAFTA, GATT, and WTO membership for China passed?
Not this populist.
The Demos need to get busy addressing the real issues or let Ralph destroy them!!

19. Voting Nader has become a joke, doing so again would make it a tragedy

Go ahead, teach us Clinton Democrats a leason, four more years of Bush. More Bush judges, attacks on: environmental protections, workers rights, civil rights, civil liberties. More redrawing congressional districts. Then we won't be able to do anything, even with a candidate PURE enough for you. Insult us more, make us less willing to support your causes. That's Smart thinking, Rove thinks so.

6. Want to see the repubs strategy?
There was a interesting strategy that the repubs had posted on one of their websites (of course you sneakily go there to see what the enemy is up to :) to help Nader run. Go to free republic and you will be able to read it.

In fact they offer a lot of sneaky stuff that they do to sabotage our efforts.

7. There's only one real way to keep him from standing for election
And that's to nominate Kucinich.

Deciding what to do is very easy, but only if you're honest with yourself (so many DUers aren't).

If you don't think having a 3-way election will be a problem, then simply turn your back. Ignore him. Don't worry about it. Concentrate completely on trying to put into office whomever you favor.

If you think a 3-way would be a problem, then bite the curséd bullet and work to nominate Kucinich.

Whatever you do, though, don't be pathetic by trying to simultaneously claim that a 3-way won't matter while snarling that he's a despicable cur who must be stopped from exercising his Constitutional rights. That just makes you sound like a kid who hasn't figured out what 'democracy' means.

8. Here's what I wrote to Mr. Nader
Edited on Fri Dec-19-03 07:28 PM by Martin Eden
I would not hesitate to Vote for Mr. Nader or any Green Party candidate if we had instant runoff voting, because they more closely reflect my views than does the current leadership of the Democratic Party.

I believe IRV would greatly enhance our democracy, and greatly enhance the viability of poltical parties outside the current two-party system.

Unfortunately we do not have IRV, and very unfortunately we have a White House that is doing more harm to our environment, our economy, and our national security than I imagined possible three years ago.

I have never in my life been so concerned and so consumed by a presidential election. Getting rid of George W. Bush is paramount in every breath I take. I have studied the positions of the Democratic candidates, and I am convinced that any one of them would have a major positive effect on the course of our nation.

If I could wave a magic wand, I would place Ralph Nader or Dennis Kucinich in the White House. Realistically, the only chance to unseat Bush in 2004 rests with a Democratic candidate who can appeal to the swing voters who will likely decide the election.

Every vote is essential. Without instant runoff voting, every vote for a third party candidate on the left increases the likelihood of another four years of George W.Bush. Without question, the vast majority of voters who would make Mr. Nader their first choice would choose a Democrat over Bush.

Therefore Mr. Nader, I urge you to not seek the presidency in 2004, to encourage the Green Party to not post a candidate for that office, and to throw all your weight and influence behind the nominee of the Democratic Party in 2004.

12. And to Hell with the Issues, right?
Your message is poison. The issues are what matter not whether some grinning doofus of a president happens to have a D or an R by his name.
If a Demo won't stand up for them, then to hell with him.
If it takes another defeat for the Demos to get it into their heads that they have to support labor rights and the environment to get elected, then so be it.

16. No ... BECAUSE of the issues
I have three main points to make here:

1)There is a substantial difference on the issues between the Democratic candidates and George W. Bush. Here's a link to their web sites if you care to investigate:
http://pages.alexa.com/features/candidates.html

2)There is no guarantee that a Democratic defeat in 2004 will result in the party becoming more progressive. The right-leaning DLC could gain even more influence, while the left splits off -- leaving a splntered opposition to a GOP that had another four years to consolidate power.

3) Four more years of W. Bush would be a disaster, because his administration is far more radical and destructive than any before it (at least during my lifetime). If you care about the ISSUES, you will do everything you can to defeat Bush in 2004.

Trying to teach the Dems a lesson by contributing to their defeat will strike a major blow against labor and the environment for the next four years -- and potentially for much longer than that.

My message wasn't poison -- it was practical. I believe we share many of the same goals. I realize that Dean, Clark, Kerry, Gephardt, and Edwards are not as progressive as Kucinich or Nader, but they are a HELLUVA lot better than Bush.

And I also happen to think that another four years of Bush is much too high a price to pay for the IFFY prospect that it will result in a long term gain for progressive politics in America.

Because that's how to guarantee that Nader will sit it out. That's the only way.

13. If Dean gets Nomination Nader may not run
Nader told the Wall Street Journal on Friday that he would probably not run if Howard Dean is the Democratic nominee. "Reading his position papers sounds eerily similar to what we've been saying. He speaks clearly … not in Senate-ese … and projects vigor. We need a macho Democrat," said Nader.

14. I find that very hard to believe.
Nader is not stupid...unless he has access to a completely different set of Dean's policy statements than Dean makes available publicly, then he can't believe that Dean is for any sort of real change.

17. Well...
I thought this was Democratic Underground, not Green Underground or Nader Undergound. He helped defeat us last time, it's no secret that the GOP gave him money and helped finance his candidacy, and it would be the same in 2004.

And to the one who attacked Clintonism and Moderate's. If I remember it was his and the DLC's strategy that won us elections.

20. the art of the possible
Get real and think about Nader and Bill Frist sitting down to work things out, and in comes Tom Delay. Nader has the the right ideas on almost every issue, but the political reality in our dear ol' USA has a long way to go before most folks even understand the questions, let alone the answers. If you think that we will become a more progressive Nation as the result of four more years of Bush, vote for Nader. Hold your breath until '08 and see what happens. The art of the possible...
