Kucinich now consistently leads in the democrats.com polls
http://www.democrats.com/display.cfm?id=296

Dean had a small lead until mid-October, then DK overtook him. I thought it might be Clark tapping into Dean's constituency, but not so--Clark started out with a bang, but has consistently lost ground since then. Kerry has been declining very gradually, and Gephardt and Lieberman have almost zero support. CMB, AS, and JE seem to be maintaining.

I find that interesting, since to join dems.com, unlike DU, one must declare oneself to be a Democrat. (I've not joined because I can't in good conscience call myself a Democrat these days).

3. Democrats.com has endorsed DK, so this isn't surprising
Democrats.com is not affiliated with the Democratic Party. It was conceived, if I remember correctly, with a similar mission to DU -- a gathering place for fed-up people who want * gone. D.com requires you to be a Democrat (and, I imagine, support the eventual nominee); DU requires you to at least be left-minded and rally behind the nominee, once there is one.

I do know a few people who stopped voting and stopped subscribing to D.com mailing because of the endorsement -- for a couple of weeks after the endorsement, there was a lot of DK stuff coming through the mail. I think some people thought it would keep up like that, and didn't want all the mail. (I went on the weekly digest miself, but for different reasons.)

6. Yep. I was one.
The minute Democrats.com endorsed DK way too early in the game, I left.

Now it appears that DU has the appearance of being a pro-Clark and anti-Dean board, it makes me wonder why I should even bother being here. Mind you, the activities as of late has been pro Clark and we need impartiality here, and the Deaniacs hasn't gotten a fair shake here as of late. A well known DUer has been banned last night because of this.

8. Surely the endorsement was a function of the support and not the reverse
Edited on Sun Dec-28-03 11:44 AM by Mairead
Your statement implies the current level of support is a function of that earlier endorsement.

To me it seems more likely that the (relative) lack of support for DK at DU is because the looser requirements for membership here has allowed infiltration by a lot of Dixiecrats, 'Reagan Democrats', stealth cap-libs, and stealth GOPers. Many long-timers remember when the atmosphere here was very much more liberal than now.

9. The early endorsement was a function of support, sure.
Dean was polling ahead of DK when the endorsement came out. DK was a strong second.

The early endorsement did have the effect of knocking some Dean supporters (and others) out. I suspect the reverse would also have been true -- if Democrats.com had endorsed Dean early, DK supporters might have gone elsewhere. (IIRC, the endorsement came out when both Dean and DK had around 2% support and 8% name recognition nationally.)

I (a Dean supporter who is increasingly getting burned out on primary politics in general) still subscribe, but I haven't voted in the poll in a long time.

DK is still disporportionately supported here (compared to Democrats in general), and I wouldn't blame his levels of support here on Dixiecrats, et. al. I'm a Dean supporter to the left of Dean, for instance. There are quite a few like me on this board -- people whose beliefs align more with one candidate than the one they ultimately choose, for whatever reason.

(I probably don't count as an old-timer -- I've been here since the war started -- but when I joined, the war was a pretty unifying thing here.)

4. Meaningless
In fact, most of us here are meaningless.

Because of our screwed up primary system, the only people that matter live in New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Iowa. What they say goes.

I'm sorry to sound so pessimistic, but I think I am being realistic.

5. He's also consistently leading
the POTUS IRV weekly poll.

He was 2nd in the moveon poll;

He was first in the Newsweek poll, which got yanked when no one took the lead from him.

They are only internet polls, its true. They're only real contribution is to give us a boost of confidence, and to remind people that Dennis has more support out there than is regularly reported. He isn't a household name; he won't show up in "official" polls until more of America hears about him. I hope we are making that happen in Iowa and New Hampshire!

You forgot to tell them the Newsweek poll was restarted 3 times in an effort to knock him out of the lead before they finally gave up! ROTFL

13. Yes, that's right.
I think of that every time someone gets patronizing about poll numbers.
