Maine Democrats: You can now vote in the Maine caucus

You may request a caucus ballot and vote by mail.

At the same time as casting your vote you're able to specify your interest in being a state convention delegate as well as a member of your town and/or county Democratic Committees. There are several ways for you to request the ballot:

You must include:

-Your name, as it appears on the town voter list
-Your address, both physical and mailing
-Your phone number

You will be sent an Absentee Caucus Form.
You must return that form to the Maine Democratic Party so that it arrives no later than 5:00PM on Wednesday, February 4, 2004. The caucus leader will verify your Democratic Party registration. You must be on the list as a Democrat in your town for your form to be counted.

My folks are independents, and they want to support Howard Dean. Do they have to switch their registration to Democrat? And how does that work? Can they switch back?

2. Yes, only registered Democrats may vote

They need to enroll as Democrats with their town clerk. It can be done at the caucus but if voting by mail it should be done now.

If people are registered in another party they need to first unenroll in that party by January 23.

One can unenroll after the caucus but I'm pretty sure there's a time period before that can happen. I'll check.

Found it: "A voter may withdraw his enrollment anytime after 3 months from the date on which he enrolled by filing a written request with the registrar."
