Democratic presidential candidate and former U.S. Sen. Carol Moseley Braun (D-Ill.) called Bush’s latest statement against gay marriage an example of how his administration is turning back the clock on civil rights.

“His actions harken to the days of Jim Crow, when government legally required discrimination,” Moseley Braun said. “It’s the wrong direction for the country.”
