Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, who has had a turbulent tenure as president of the European Union, is clashing with a British magazine about its stories on him.
In its latest edition, The Economist outlines corruption allegations against the Italian Prime Minister and challenges him to answer 28 questions about them. In response, Mr. Berlusconi's holding company, Fininvest, denounced the respected weekly and threatened a lawsuit.
The dispute gave new ammunition Sunday to critics at home and abroad of Mr. Berlusconi, Italy's richest man.
Columnist Enzo Biagi criticized him on the front-page of the Milan daily Corriere della Sera, writing: "The only interests he thinks about are his own: his businesses, his money."
Mr. Berlusconi's lawyers accuse The Economist of mounting a hostile campaign against him.
